FORT LAUDERDALE, Flórida — O ex-presidente Donald Trump está seguro após o que o FBI diz que “parece ser uma tentativa de assassinato” enquanto jogava golfe dois meses após outra tentativa de assassinato em um comício na Pensilvânia.
Autoridades locais disseram que agentes do Serviço Secreto dos EUA que protegiam Trump atiraram em um homem que apontava um rifle estilo AK com mira enquanto Trump jogava em um de seus campos de golfe na Flórida, em West Palm Beach.

Quem é o suspeito?
Autoridades policiais disseram que o homem que apontou o rifle e foi preso é Ryan Wesley Routh. As autoridades identificaram o suspeito para a The Associated Press sob condição de anonimato porque não estavam autorizadas a discutir a investigação em andamento.
O suspeito largou a arma e fugiu em um SUV e mais tarde foi levado sob custódia em um condado vizinho, disseram as autoridades. O motivo não está claro. Autoridades locais disseram que o atirador tinha duas mochilas penduradas em uma cerca e uma câmera GoPro.
Routh foi condenado em 2002 por posse de arma de destruição em massa, de acordo com registros online do Departamento de Correção de Adultos da Carolina do Norte.
Os registros não fornecem detalhes sobre o caso. Mas uma história do News & Record de 2002 diz que um homem com o mesmo nome foi preso após um impasse de três horas com a polícia. A história diz que ele foi parado durante uma blitz de trânsito, colocou a mão em uma arma e se barricou dentro de uma empresa de telhados. Routh foi acusado de portar uma arma escondida e possuir uma arma de destruição em massa, “referindo-se a uma metralhadora totalmente automática”, de acordo com o News & Record.

Autoridades locais disseram que o atirador estava a cerca de 360 a 450 metros de Trump e escondido em arbustos enquanto o ex-presidente jogava uma partida de golfe no Trump International Golf Club, em West Palm Beach.
Ric Bradshaw, xerife do Condado de Palm Beach, disse que quando as pessoas entram nos arbustos ao redor do campo, “elas ficam praticamente fora de vista”. Bradshaw disse que todo o campo de golfe estaria cercado por policiais se Trump fosse o presidente em exercício, mas como ele não é, “a segurança é limitada às áreas que o Serviço Secreto considera possíveis”.

O que Trump disse desde a tentativa?
Em um e-mail para apoiadores, Trump disse: “Houve tiros perto de mim, mas antes que os rumores comecem a sair do controle, eu queria que vocês ouvissem isso primeiro: ESTOU SEGURO E BEM!”
Seu companheiro de chapa, JD Vance, e o senador Lindsey Graham, da Carolina do Sul, disseram que conversaram com Trump após o incidente, e ambos disseram que ele estava de “bom humor”. Trump também conversou com vários apresentadores da Fox News.
O apresentador da Fox News, Sean Hannity, um amigo próximo do ex-presidente, disse no ar que falou com Trump e seu parceiro de golfe, Steve Witkoff, depois. Eles disseram a Hannity que estavam no quinto buraco quando ouviram um “pop pop, pop pop”. Em segundos, ele disse que Witkoff relatou, agentes do Serviço Secreto “atacaram” Trump e o “cobriram” para protegê-lo.
Momentos depois, disse Witkoff, um “carrinho rápido” com reforço de aço e outras proteções conseguiu levar Trump embora.
Hannity disse que a reação de Trump depois que isso aconteceu — e quando ficou claro que todos, incluindo Witkoff, estavam seguros — foi brincar que estava triste por não ter conseguido terminar o buraco, já que ele “estava empatado e tinha uma tacada de birdie”.
O que a vice-presidente Kamala Harris está dizendo?
Harris, adversária democrata de Trump na eleição presidencial, postou no X que havia sido informada sobre os relatos de tiros disparados.

Enquanto isso, os líderes de uma força-tarefa bipartidária do Congresso que investiga a tentativa de assassinato de Trump em 13 de julho disseram que solicitaram um briefing do Serviço Secreto.
“Estamos gratos que o ex-presidente não tenha sido ferido, mas continuamos profundamente preocupados com a violência política e a condenamos em todas as suas formas”, disseram o deputado Mike Kelly, R-Pa., e o deputado Jason Crow, D-Colo., em uma declaração. Eles disseram que a força-tarefa compartilhará atualizações.
O deputado dos EUA Jared Moskowitz, um democrata da Flórida que faz parte da força-tarefa, disse que “buscará respostas sobre o que aconteceu hoje e então”.
