O membro do Conselho Municipal Jason Chavez, que representa a área onde os tiroteios ocorreram, disse em uma declaração que o fentanil não foi o único fator. A falta de moradia, ele disse, está “disparando” entre os alunos das Escolas Públicas de Minneapolis, enquanto despejos de aluguel, falta de espaço para abrigo e escassez de moradia contribuem para o problema.
“A falta de direção e liderança forçou o Conselho Municipal a começar a pressionar por ferramentas de prevenção à falta de moradia, intervindo para impedir que abrigos fechassem permanentemente e tentando adotar o que outras cidades descobriram ser bem-sucedido, já que está claro que a direção que Minneapolis está tomando tem sido ineficaz”, disse Chavez.
