Quase duas dezenas de ex-funcionários de Mohamed Al-Fayed — pai do parceiro da princesa Diana, Dodi Fayed, que morreu ao lado da realeza em 1997 — estão acusando o falecido bilionário de tê-los estuprado ou abusado sexualmente de alguma forma.
O ex-proprietário da Harrods, que morreu aos 94 anos em agosto de 2023, supostamente estuprou até cinco mulheres, com mais de 20 ex-funcionárias acusando-o de agressão sexual ou estupro em vários continentes, relata a BBC.
Os supostos ataques ocorreram em Londres, Paris, St. Tropez e Abu Dhabi.
As alegações são exibidas no documentário e podcast do canal, “Al-Fayed: Predator at Harrods”, no qual a famosa loja de departamentos de luxo de Londres é acusada de ter ajudado a encobrir as alegações contra Fayed.
O advogado Bruce Drummond, cuja equipe jurídica representa vários dos acusadores, disse à BBC que “a teia de corrupção e abuso nesta empresa era inacreditável e muito obscura”.
Ex-funcionários disseram que o suposto comportamento predatório de Fayed era um segredo aberto, e muitas de suas acusadoras se apresentaram quando ele ainda estava vivo.
“Todos nós nos observamos entrando por aquela porta pensando: ‘coitadinha, é você hoje’, e nos sentindo totalmente impotentes para impedir isso”, disse uma mulher.
“Ele cultivava ativamente o medo. Se ele dissesse ‘pule’, os funcionários perguntariam ‘quão alto?’”, disse outro.
Uma mulher acrescentou que a “cultura do medo” não tinha limites e estava presente “desde o mais humilde dos humildes até a pessoa mais graduada” na Harrods.
Cinco das acusadoras disseram que foram estupradas, enquanto várias outras que alegaram agressão disseram que Fayed tentou estuprá-las.
Trabalhar na Harrods supostamente incluía testes invasivos de saúde sexual. Embora fossem realizados por médicos, os resultados eram enviados a Fayed, mas não às mulheres envolvidas.
Eamon Coyle, que atuou em vários níveis de segurança na Harrods, disse que suas funções incluíam ouvir chamadas gravadas e que Fayed “grampeava todo mundo que queria grampear”.
“A Harrods de hoje é uma organização muito diferente daquela de propriedade e controlada por Al Fayed entre 1985 e 2010, é uma que busca colocar o bem-estar de nossos funcionários no centro de tudo o que fazemos”, disseram os atuais proprietários em uma declaração à BBC, condenando Fayed.
Outros veículos tentaram anteriormente expor alegações contra Fayed, com uma exposição da Vanity Fair em 1995 acusando-o de má conduta sexual e culminando em um processo de difamação e acordo. Outras tentativas foram feitas pela ITV dois anos depois e pelo Channel 4 em 2017.
No verão passado, a Harrods começou a resolver processos civis movidos contra ela por mais de uma dúzia de acusadores.
