Uma nova estátua projetada para homenagear Elizabeth II, a monarca que mais tempo permaneceu no poder no Reino Unido, recebeu uma recepção mista.
A escultura de bronze, criada pelo artista do norte de Belfast, Anto Brennan, foi inaugurada nos Jardins do Castelo de Antrim no sábado.
Desde então, a estátua da falecida rainha, do príncipe Philip e de dois corgis atraiu algumas críticas nas redes sociais e comentários de visitantes dos jardins do Condado de Antrim.
A vereadora de Antrim e Newtownabbey, Vera McWilliam, disse à BBC News NI: “Temos que ser honestos, ela não se parece com a rainha em nenhuma forma ou formato.”
“Espero que tenham conseguido de graça”
Richard, de Antrim, disse que ficou “muito decepcionado” depois de ver a estátua online e depois ir vê-la com sua esposa.
“Quem assinou isso precisa ter os olhos examinados. Não é bom”, ele acrescentou.
“Eu tiraria isso. Não faz nada em memória de Sua Majestade, então definitivamente eu removeria.”
Brenda, de Lisburn, acha que a estátua deveria ter sido “feita para parecer mais velha”, mas “no geral ela é muito bonita” e “você ainda entende o que ela representa e do que se trata”.
“Chamou minha atenção imediatamente”, ela continuou.
“Você pode ver quem eles são, mas acho que definitivamente deveria ter sido ela, pouco antes de morrer, para capturar todo o significado de quem ela era e o que ela representava.”
Alejandro, de Londres, estava visitando os Jardins do Castelo de Antrim com dois amigos de El Salvador.
Ele achou que a estátua “não parecia a rainha”.
“Como está em sua memória, acho que é uma coisa boa, mas não se parece com ela.
“Os cães e o príncipe Philip parecem bonitos, mas a rainha não se parece com ela”, acrescentou.
‘Deixe como está’
Cheryl e Gordon, de Saintfield, disseram que gostaram da escultura, mas tinham algumas ideias sobre como ela poderia ter sido melhorada.
Cheryl disse que “há algo errado com a postura da parte superior do corpo e com o braço direito, mas ainda é lindo vê-la”.
Gordon acrescentou: “Eu não teria notado que não parecia com a rainha, mas depois de ver no Facebook e agora que vejo sim, provavelmente não é um reflexo verdadeiro dela.
“É apenas o rosto, o resto do caráter dela parece correto, mas o rosto talvez não seja um reflexo verdadeiro dela.
“É o que é, todos nós sabemos quem ela é e o que ela deveria ser, então eu deixaria do jeito que está.”
Francis e Marie de Magherafelt ficaram muito felizes com a escultura.
“É ótimo, acho que eles têm tudo sob controle”, disse Francis à BBC News NI.
“Eles têm a rainha, pois ela é jovem. Acho que os dois ficariam muito satisfeitos com isso. E eles têm os corgis por todo lado.
“Essa é a rainha, ela adorava estar ao ar livre e é por isso que há um sorriso em seu rosto.”
Marie acrescentou que a estátua “parece com ela quando você a vê com os cavalos e cachorros. É mais sobre sua vida privada, mais pé no chão”.
‘É uma questão de gosto pessoal’
O debate sobre a escultura começou na seção de comentários de um postagem em mídia social pelo Conselho Municipal de Antrim e Newtownabbey apresentando as primeiras fotos da escultura.
Os comentários foram desativados desde então.
O proposta encomendar uma escultura da falecida rainha e seus dois corgis veio em janeiro de 2023.
Já havia uma estátua de bronze do Príncipe Philip no Jardim Parterre.
O vice-prefeito de Antrim e Newtownabbey, Paul Dunlop, compareceu à inauguração da nova estátua.
Ele disse à BBC News NI: “É uma questão de gosto pessoal, cada um tem sua opinião, mas o que a escultura representa é o que importa.”
Quando a escultura foi inaugurada, o prefeito de Antrim e Newtownabbey, Neil Kelly descrito como uma “bela estátua”.
Seu criador, Anthony ‘Anto’ Brennan, é mais conhecido por seus jogos de xadrez de importantes figuras políticas da Irlanda do Norte.

O Conselho Municipal de Antrim e Newtownabbey também foi contatado.
