A Outdoor Retailer, principal feira comercial do setor de atividades ao ar livre, não acontecerá em Salt Lake City em novembro, anunciaram os organizadores na quinta-feira.
A feira comercial historicamente é realizada duas vezes por ano no Salt Palace Convention Center no centro da cidade, exceto pelos cinco anos que passou em Denver. Em uma entrevista com o The Daily — o boletim informativo do programa que divulgou o anúncio na quinta-feira — o diretor do programa, Sean Smith, disse que a OR agora se combinará em um grande, “mais abrangente show e experiência aprimorada” em junho.
Smith disse que os organizadores “não estão cancelando o show de novembro”, apenas combinando-o. Mas não haverá show em dois meses, de acordo com o The Daily. Ainda esta semana, a OR estava anunciando um show neste outono.
Nem Smith nem um breve comunicado à imprensa publicado no site Outdoor Retailer mencionaram um show em novembro de 2025.
O show de verão sempre foi o evento principal da OR e normalmente atrai de três a quatro vezes o número de expositores do show de outono, que este ano foi agendado para 6 a 8 de novembro. O show de outono deste ano foi definido para ocorrer simultaneamente com o Outdoor Design + Innovation, um show sob o guarda-chuva Outdoor Retailer que se concentra em novas tecnologias, bem como matérias-primas em vez de produtos acabados. Esse show retornará ao slot de junho, onde fez sua estreia este ano.
Marcas e compradores pediram a mudança, disse Smith.
“Nossa decisão veio depois de receber uma tonelada de feedback de expositores e participantes”, disse Smith, “junto com dados sobre o quão importante o período de liquidação de junho é para a indústria”.
A consolidação ocorre em meio à redução da participação mundial em grandes feiras comerciais como a Outdoor Retailer desde a pandemia da COVID-19. Nos últimos anos, a Emerald Expositions, empresa controladora da Outdoor Retailer, experimentou abrir suas portas ao público e realizar exposições de demonstração externas para atrair mais interesse. O retorno da feira a Salt Lake City no ano passado, após a mudança para Denver — no que foi visto como um boicote às políticas de terras públicas de Utah — também rendeu algumas críticas à Outdoor Retailer.
Quando retornou a Salt Lake City, a Emerald Expositions aproveitou a oportunidade para fazer algumas mudanças. Mudou seu Snow Show de janeiro para novembro e o renomeou como Winter Market. Então reservou o horário de janeiro para o que chamou de The Summit, que seria menos um show e mais uma conferência focada em atividades ao ar livre.
Neste verão, a Outdoor Retailer também se separou da parceira Outdoor Industry Association, encerrando uma parceria de 30 anos.
Não está claro o que a nova consolidação significa para qualquer um que planejou comparecer ou exibir um produto na feira de novembro. Smith não respondeu imediatamente às perguntas do The Salt Lake Tribune.
Um porta-voz do Salt Palace também não respondeu imediatamente a perguntas sobre se a OR tinha um contrato para o show de novembro. Um porta-voz do Condado de Salt Lake, a entidade que na verdade é dona do Salt Palace, não comentou imediatamente sobre a decisão da OR.
Dividir o show em duas temporadas era, historicamente, uma maneira das marcas estrearem equipamentos sazonais e os varejistas planejarem e comprarem de acordo. Consolidar, OR disse online, é uma maneira de responder aos “padrões de compra em evolução no mercado”.
Smith disse que o show quer aguçar seu foco em “novas e inovadoras marcas e produtos”. O show expandido em junho incluirá uma nova seção de “marcas emergentes” chamada Ascent e novas categorias de produtos, Smith disse ao The Daily.
Horas antes do anúncio de quinta-feira, o governador Spencer Cox disse que o retorno da Outdoor Retailer a Salt Lake provou que “as pessoas vão investir mais dinheiro” para sediar eventos em sua cidade ou estado, mas Utah vence no final.
O governador, que está concorrendo à reeleição neste outono, estava comparando a feira comercial ao Festival de Cinema de Sundance, que anunciou na semana passada que Utah está entre os três lugares ainda na disputa para sediar o festival a partir de 2027. Sundance disse que exploraria outras opções de sediador em maio. A Outdoor Retailer, Cox disse na quinta-feira de manhã, “percebeu que cometeu um erro” ao sair — um conto de advertência para Sundance prestar atenção.
Visit Salt Lake, um parceiro próximo da Outdoor Retailer, não fez comentários imediatos sobre o que a mudança poderia significar para a visitação de Salt Lake. Antes de sair, os dois shows da Outdoor Retailer geraram um impacto econômico anual estimado em US$ 40 milhões.
Smith disse ao The Daily que OR planeja “absolutamente” permanecer em Salt Lake.
