Um garoto de 16 anos foi preso pelo assassinato de uma mulher de 57 anos que foi morta a tiros durante o assalto ao marido em frente ao apartamento deles no Lower East Side, informou a polícia na sexta-feira.
O adolescente foi sequestrado pelo tiroteio de 9 de setembro dentro do prédio de apartamentos da vítima Ying Zhu Liu na Market St., perto da Madison St., disseram os policiais.
Investigadores prenderam o adolescente na quinta-feira, acusando-o de assassinato, roubo, furto e porte de armas. O nome do adolescente não foi divulgado por causa de sua idade.
Não ficou imediatamente claro se ele foi quem atirou em Liu, pois ele e seu cúmplice, ambos usando máscaras de esqui, tentaram roubar o marido de Liu, de 61 anos, a poucos passos de seu apartamento por volta das 23h.
A dupla seguiu o marido de Liu até o prédio e o elevador, onde o atacaram.
Os bandidos e o marido estavam envolvidos em uma briga quando o elevador parou no oitavo andar, onde ele morava com a esposa.
“Foi um grito, depois outro grito e então ouvi um estouro”, disse um morador chocado do prédio que não forneceu seu nome ao Daily News logo após o assassinato. “Então ouvi mais comoção e gritos.”
Um vídeo de vigilância mostra que o filho de 31 anos do casal, Lin Rong Yan, conhecido pelos vizinhos como Paul, entrou na briga quando seu pai chegou ao oitavo andar.
“Paul saiu”, disse o vizinho. “Paul e seu pai estavam brigando com eles.”
Pai e filho forçaram os ladrões a irem para o lado oposto do corredor do apartamento deles e passarem por uma porta que dava para uma escada, disse o vizinho. Depois que eles passaram pela porta, Liu pode ser vista no vídeo correndo pelo corredor na direção da unidade deles. Ela entrou pela porta da escada e, momentos depois, caiu por ela, disse o vizinho.
“Eles entram na escada e você não sabe o que está acontecendo, mas você vê a mãe correndo para fora. … Ela corre para fora e então alguns segundos depois ela simplesmente cai no chão. Sua cabeça bateu no chão”, disse o vizinho.
“Ela deve ter visto o que estava acontecendo”, ele acrescentou. “Devem ter sido os gritos que ouvi — porque o estouro foi logo depois dos gritos.”
Liu foi baleado na bochecha direita por um dos assaltantes e morreu no local, disse a polícia.
Pai e filho foram levados ao Hospital Presbiteriano de Nova York, em Lower Manhattan, devido aos ferimentos sofridos na briga com os assaltantes.
A família veio de Fuzhou, na China, há 10 anos, e o pai é um funcionário aposentado de um restaurante, disse o amigo.
“Não quero falar sobre isso”, disse o filho enquanto ele e o pai recebiam alta do hospital. “É difícil. Minha mãe era uma boa mulher.”
Um único cartucho foi recuperado na escada. Os bandidos assassinos fugiram com o celular do marido e $100, disse a polícia.
Um suspeito estava usando um moletom meio vermelho, meio preto, calças de moletom escuras com uma listra branca na lateral e uma máscara de esqui, disse a polícia. O outro estava usando um moletom preto, calças pretas, tênis preto e branco e uma máscara de esqui preta.
Não foi imediatamente divulgado como os policiais localizaram o adolescente, que foi preso sem incidentes. A acusação do adolescente estava pendente no Tribunal Criminal de Manhattan.
Seu cúmplice continuava foragido na sexta-feira.
