O som estridente da torcida da casa vestindo vermelho apaixonadamente pôde ser ouvido no Arbor View na sexta-feira à noite.
Jogando diante de uma multidão “desaparecida” no retorno para casa, os Aggies, número 2 no ranking da Classe 5A do Review-Journal, garantiram que o Basic ficasse vermelho durante todo o jogo para garantir uma vitória de 35 a 7 na abertura da liga da Divisão I da Classe 5A.
Depois que o jogo foi adiado por 55 minutos por causa de raios, o mau tempo diminuiu o suficiente para não chover totalmente no desfile dos Aggies.
O quarterback do segundo ano Thaddeus Thatcher lançou três passes para touchdown para o Arbor View (4-0, 1-0 5A Divisão I), e os Aggies interceptaram os Wolves quatro vezes.
Mas Basic (1-4, 0-1) atacou primeiro. No segundo drive dos Wolves, o quarterback sênior Jayveon Rose acertou o recebedor sênior Donovan Glover por 42 jardas em terceira e 10. Algumas jogadas depois, Rose conectou mais uma vez com Glover em um touchdown de 27 jardas em terceira e 17 para colocar os Wolves em 7-0 com 5:30 restantes no primeiro quarto.
Thatcher, que tem várias ofertas notáveis na Divisão I, respondeu rapidamente com um passe para touchdown de 33 jardas para o aluno do segundo ano Zac Fares, empatando o jogo em 7 a 7 faltando 3:19 para o fim do primeiro quarto.
“No primeiro drive, começamos muito devagar, só um monte de erros. E então, depois que saímos do campo, tive que ir falar com alguns dos nossos caras, só nos acertar, e depois voltar para o campo e ir lá e marcar”, disse Thatcher. “Minha leitura não foi muito boa só de conseguir ver o campo hoje. Não foi o nosso melhor dia.”
Após mais dois passes para touchdown de Thatcher, o defensive back do Arbor View, Kent Bell III, retornou uma interceptação de 52 jardas para um touchdown, colocando os Aggies em vantagem por 28 a 7, faltando 6:30 para o fim do segundo quarto.
“Foi realmente apenas um alinhamento, uma técnica de atribuição que fizemos por meio de coaching durante toda a semana. Então aconteceu como planejamos”, disse Bell III. “Estamos realmente apenas praticando aquela coisa específica.”
O segundo tempo pareceu terminar para o Basic assim que começou com sua quarta interceptação.
Um touchdown de 27 jardas do running back Nylen Johnson, faltando 42 segundos para o fim do terceiro quarto, colocou os Aggies na frente por 35 a 7 no início do tempo corrido.
