A proibição de anúncios de junk food exibidos na TV antes das 21:00 entrará em vigor em 1º de outubro de 2025, confirmou o governo.
O Partido Trabalhista disse que o fim da publicidade de junk food seria imposto juntamente com uma proibição total de anúncios pagos online, ambos visando combater a obesidade infantil.
Os conservadores já haviam se comprometido com a proibição em 2021, quando Boris Johnson era primeiro-ministro, mas a medida foi adiada para dar mais tempo à indústria para se preparar.
O Ministro da Saúde, Andrew Gwynne, disse que confirmar o escopo das restrições e a data em que seriam implementadas trouxe clareza para as empresas.
Gwynne disse que o governo queria “enfrentar o problema de frente” e “sem mais demora”.
“Essas restrições ajudarão a proteger as crianças de serem expostas à publicidade de alimentos e bebidas menos saudáveis, o que, segundo evidências, influencia suas preferências alimentares desde cedo”, disse ele em sua declaração por escrito à Câmara dos Comuns na quinta-feira.
A proibição pré-divisor de águas foi uma promessa no manifesto trabalhista durante a campanha eleitoral geral deste ano.
O governo publicou agora sua resposta a uma consulta de 2022 sobre o rascunho de medidas para a proibição, confirmando definições para os produtos, negócios e serviços abrangidos pelas restrições.
Gwynne disse que o governo também realizará uma consulta específica de quatro semanas para poder esclarecer como as restrições se aplicariam à Televisão por Protocolo de Internet (IPTV), que transmite TV ao vivo pela internet.
Acontece quando o primeiro-ministro Sir Keir Starmer prometeu reformas significativas para o NHS após a publicação de um relatório do cirurgião e ex-ministro trabalhista Lord Darzi.
Entre os planos de Sir Keir está uma transição para um NHS digital, transferindo mais cuidados dos hospitais para as comunidades e um foco na prevenção de doenças para aliviar a pressão.
“Uma dessas pressões é a crise da obesidade infantil, que prepara as crianças para uma vida pouco saudável e gera pressões ainda maiores sobre o NHS”, disse Gwynne.
“Mais de uma em cada cinco crianças na Inglaterra está acima do peso ou vivendo com obesidade quando começa a escola primária, e esse número sobe para mais de um terço quando terminam a escola.”
