DEIR AL-BALAH, Faixa de Gaza — Um ataque israelense no norte de Gaza matou pelo menos 22 pessoas no sábado, de acordo com o Ministério da Saúde de Gaza, enquanto o exército israelense disse que teve como alvo um centro de comando do Hamas no que costumava ser uma escola.
Outros 30 ficaram feridos no ataque na área de Zeitoun, na Cidade de Gaza, informou o ministério em um comunicado.
O exército israelense disse no sábado que atacou o “centro de comando e controle do Hamas, que estava embutido dentro de um complexo que anteriormente servia” como uma escola. Ele disse que medidas foram tomadas para limitar danos a civis, incluindo o uso de munições precisas e vigilância aérea.
Também no sábado, o Ministério da Saúde de Gaza disse que cinco de seus funcionários foram mortos e outros cinco ficaram feridos por disparos israelenses que atingiram os armazéns do ministério na área sul de Musbah.
Os militares israelenses acusam continuamente o Hamas de operar dentro da infraestrutura civil em Gaza, incluindo escolas, instalações da ONU e hospitais.
A guerra começou quando combatentes liderados pelo Hamas mataram cerca de 1.200 pessoas, a maioria civis, em um ataque em 7 de outubro no sul de Israel. Eles sequestraram outras 250 pessoas e ainda mantêm cerca de 100 reféns. A campanha de Israel em Gaza matou pelo menos 41.000 palestinos, de acordo com o Ministério da Saúde de Gaza, administrado pelo Hamas, que não diferencia entre combatentes e civis.
Dezenas de milhares de israelenses se manifestaram na noite de sábado em Tel Aviv e em vários protestos menores pelo país, exigindo um cessar-fogo e o retorno dos cerca de 100 reféns ainda mantidos em Gaza. Os protestos, que acontecem todo sábado à noite, atraíram uma multidão semelhante em comparação às semanas anteriores, apesar da tensa situação de segurança na fronteira norte de Israel.
