O presidente-executivo de um serviço de apoio a vítimas de agressão sexual renunciou após uma revisão concluir que ele não protegia espaços exclusivos para mulheres.
Mridul Wadhwa – uma mulher trans – renunciou após uma Relatório da Rape Crisis Scotland descobriu que ela não se comportou profissionalmente enquanto era chefe do Centro de Crise de Estupro de Edimburgo (ERCC).
A investigação, realizada por um consultor independente, também descobriu que a Sra. Wadhwa “não entendia os limites de sua autoridade” e que as necessidades dos sobreviventes não eram priorizadas.
Em uma declaração, o conselho do ERCC disse que estava implementando as recomendações da revisão, mas sentiu que “era o momento certo para uma mudança de liderança”.
A revisão foi desencadeada após um tribunal de trabalho encontrou um conselheiro com opiniões críticas de gênero tinha sido injustamente rejeitado de forma construtiva.
A ex-funcionária Roz Adams acreditava que aqueles que usam o serviço deveriam poder saber o sexo da equipe que lida com seus casos.
A instituição de caridade suspendeu novos encaminhamentos para o centro e disse estar “extremamente preocupada” com o fato de vagas exclusivas para mulheres não terem sido disponibilizadas por 16 meses.
Uma declaração da ERCC disse: “Mridul deixou seu papel como CEO da ERCC. O recrutamento de um novo CEO acontecerá no devido tempo.
“Estamos comprometidos em oferecer excelência e, ao mesmo tempo, levar em consideração as recomendações da revisão independente para garantir que colocamos as vozes dos sobreviventes no centro da nossa estratégia.
“Estamos em comunicação diária com a Rape Crisis Scotland, atendemos às suas demandas urgentes e estamos atualmente implementando as recomendações do relatório.
“Continuaremos trabalhando junto com a RCS para garantir que nossos serviços não apenas atendam, mas excedam os Padrões Nacionais de Serviço.”
No entanto, a For Women Scotland — que fez campanha contra mudanças nos direitos dos transgêneros — acusou o conselho de “ignorar sua própria culpabilidade”.
Em uma declaração postado no X, eles disseram: “Isso é o mínimo que eles podem fazer. Parece que o conselho está decidido a ignorar sua própria culpabilidade.
“Não é bom o suficiente.
“Eles, e a Rape Crisis Scotland, estão fazendo um sacrifício. Mas eles criaram o problema.”
Linha do tribunal
O tribunal da Sra. Adams, concluído em maio, concentrou-se em um processo disciplinar que começou depois que ela buscou repetidamente clareza sobre como responder a uma sobrevivente de abuso que queria saber se um assistente social que se identificou como não binário era um homem ou uma mulher.
Algumas pessoas que não se consideram portadoras de uma identidade de gênero exclusivamente masculina ou feminina se descrevem como não binárias.
A opinião da Sra. Adams era que as pessoas que usavam o centro deveriam ter a opção de escolher de quem receberiam apoio com base no sexo, e que o sexo era binário e “todo mundo é homem ou mulher nesse nível”.
O tribunal concluiu que uma investigação sobre a conduta da Sra. Adams não deveria ter sido iniciada e “foi claramente motivada por uma forte crença entre a alta administração e alguns colegas da reclamante de que as opiniões da reclamante eram inerentemente odiosas”.
A Sra. Wadhwa foi destacada no resultado do caso porque ela parecia acreditar que a Sra. Adams era transfóbica.
Disse que a Sra. Wadhwa era “a mão invisível por trás de tudo o que aconteceu”.
A análise da instituição de caridade, publicada na quinta-feira, também concluiu que a Sra. Wadhwa “não entendia os limites da autoridade de sua função”.
Desde então, a Sra. Adams passou a trabalhar no Beira’s Place, um serviço de apoio exclusivo para mulheres vítimas de violência sexual, parcialmente financiado por J.K. Rowling.
‘Serviços de alta qualidade’
A revisão descobriu que a instituição de caridade passou por uma série de dificuldades, incluindo uma reestruturação do serviço durante a pandemia e uma série de mudanças no conselho e na administração.
Ele disse que alguns sistemas básicos não eram robustos, o que “não ajudava a organização a gerenciar bem as situações”.
Isso incluiu uma estratégia “que não colocou as sobreviventes em primeiro lugar” e uma falha em proteger espaços exclusivos para mulheres.
Em suas recomendações, a revisão disse que o centro de Edimburgo deveria seguir o conselho da Rape Crisis Scotland sobre a definição de “mulher” e divulgá-la dentro do serviço.
Espaços e horários exclusivos para mulheres “devem ser protegidos e claramente divulgados”, afirmou.
Mas a revisão também reconheceu que a empresa continuou a “fornecer serviços de alta qualidade a um número significativo de pessoas”.
Os sobreviventes ainda podem se autoindicar na instituição de caridade.
