Um menino de 6 anos do norte da Califórnia sequestrado em 1951 foi encontrado vivendo na Costa Leste, onde supostamente criou sua própria família e se aposentou como bombeiro após servir na Marinha durante a Guerra do Vietnã.
“Obrigado por me encontrar”, disse Luis Armando Albino à sua sobrinha Alida Alequin, de 63 anos, que o localizou com a ajuda de um kit de ancestralidade online, jornais velhos e autoridades policiais locais e federais.
De acordo com o Mercury News, uma mulher prometendo doces sequestrou Albino de um parque em Oakland, onde ele estava brincando com seu irmão mais velho, Roger — que morreu em agosto — em 21 de fevereiro de 1951. A mãe dos meninos morreu em 2005.
Alequin passou a suspeitar que seu tio ainda estava vivo depois que um teste de DNA feito em 2020 mostrou uma correspondência de 22% com Albino, com quem ela não conseguiu entrar em contato. No início de 2024, Alequin e suas filhas continuaram procurando por Albino examinando artigos de notícias antigos na Biblioteca Pública de Oakland. Essa pesquisa produziu evidências convincentes o suficiente para despertar o interesse da polícia local, o que levou ao envolvimento do Departamento de Justiça dos EUA e do FBI.
As autoridades encontraram Albino, que enviou uma amostra de DNA que correspondia a uma fornecida pela irmã de sua mãe biológica na Costa Oeste. Os investigadores confirmaram a conexão em 20 de junho, de acordo com a CBS News.
Quatro dias depois, Albino, agora avô, retornou a Oakland com sua família para encontrar os parentes biológicos que o rastrearam. Ele também se reuniu com seu irmão, que ainda estava vivo no Condado de Stanislaus, Califórnia. Roger e Luis Albino passaram o tempo juntos falando sobre o dia em que foram separados e discutindo seu tempo no exército, de acordo com Alequin.
Roger, que tinha 10 anos quando seu irmãozinho foi sequestrado, teria falado com os investigadores várias vezes ao longo dos anos. Ele afirmou que uma mulher que falava espanhol com uma bandana na cabeça foi embora com o menino.
A polícia de Oakland confirmou à CBS News que o caso de desaparecimento de Albino foi encerrado, enquanto a investigação de sequestro do FBI continua ativa. Não foi relatado onde na Costa Leste Albino foi criado ou reside atualmente.
