Tamanho, tempo, dinheiro e política desempenharam seu papel em garantir que o projeto de reconstrução não decolasse.
Aprovação do planejamento anulada
No início, o A GAA queria construir um estádio com capacidade para 38.000 pessoasmas a aprovação do planejamento foi anulada em 2014.
Um estádio menor com um projeto diferente foi então desenhado e posteriormente aprovado.
No entanto, com uma capacidade proposta de 34.500 e uma especificação moderna, ele nunca seria construído de forma barata ou rápida.
Somente no verão de 2021 o novo estádio recebeu aprovação formal.
Mesmo assim, ainda teve que se defender de outro desafio de um grupo de moradores locais que se opôs ao seu tamanho e impacto na área circundante.
A pandemia da Covid-19 também desacelerou tudo.
No entanto, com a aprovação do planejamento, o caminho parecia livre para a remodelação, e o estádio foi confirmado em 2023 como sede do próximo Eurocopa, em 2028, no Reino Unido e na Irlanda.
Os organizadores do torneio, a UEFA, deixaram claro; no entanto, o estádio precisava ser construído até o verão de 2027 para dar tempo aos eventos de teste e garantir que o local fosse capaz de sediar jogos internacionais.
Aumento dos custos
A cada mês que passava, a conta potencial da construção aumentou cada vez mais à medida que o custo dos materiais de construção aumentava rapidamente.
De repente, o preço original de £ 77,5 milhões dificilmente pagaria por uma das arquibancadas.
O governo do Reino Unido agora estima que o custo potencial será superior a 400 milhões de libras.
Há até mesmo uma sugestão de que o valor poderia ser mais próximo de £ 450 milhões do que de £ 400 milhões para atender às especificações exigidas pela UEFA.

A reconstrução tem sido mais uma prioridade para os partidos nacionalistas do que para os partidos unionistas.
Nos círculos esportivos, há uma opinião de que, se os políticos tivessem trabalhado melhor em conjunto, Casement já teria sido construída.

Os nacionalistas dirão que a reconstrução de Casement deveria ter tido muito mais apoio.
Os sindicalistas dirão que o projeto foi mal administrado há 10 anos e que foi aí que tudo deu errado.

O Sinn Féin é o maior partido político da Irlanda do Norte e deixou claro que um novo Casement Park deve ser construído – e será construído.
Construir um estádio GAA, que não precisa das especificações da UEFA, não custará £ 400 milhões. Mas pode muito bem custar mais de £ 200 milhões, ou £ 250 milhões.
