Um suposto pedido de desculpas de Janet Jackson por espalhar uma falsa conspiração sobre Kamala Harris não era legítimo, de acordo com os representantes de Jackson.
Jackson, 58, disse que ouviu que Harris “não era negra” em uma entrevista publicada no domingo pelo Guardian. O pai de Harris, Donald Harris, é um homem negro da Jamaica, e sua mãe, Shyamala Gopalan, era indiana.
Após a entrevista, um homem que afirmava ser o empresário de Jackson enviou um pedido de desculpas a vários veículos de notícias, incluindo o Buzzfeed. Em parte, dizia que Jackson “respeita a dupla herança de Harris, tanto negra quanto indígena, e pede desculpas por qualquer confusão causada”.
Mas Jackson nunca autorizou o pedido de desculpas, disseram seus representantes à revista People. A equipe de Jackson alegou que o homem que o emitiu, Mo Elmasri, nunca trabalhou com Jackson e não teve nada a ver com ela. Jackson é agenciada por seu irmão, Randy.
No entanto, Elmasri não iria cair sem lutar. Ele disse à Variety que tinha sido empresário de Jackson, mas foi demitido por causa do pedido de desculpas confuso.
“Fui demitido por Janet e Randy, após tentativas de melhorar a imagem dela diante da opinião pública e de seus fãs, e isso é algo que eu não mereço”, disse ele ao canal.
Os representantes de Jackson disseram à Variety que Janet e Randy Jackson estão tirando um tempo para lamentar a morte de seu irmão mais velho, Tito, que morreu em 15 de setembro aos 70 anos.
Harris, 59, não comentou. Ela estava em Manhattan no domingo para uma grande arrecadação de fundos na Cipriani Wall Street, que sua equipe alegou ter arrecadado US$ 27 milhões para sua campanha presidencial.
