Querida Abby: Meu filho está noivo de uma garota que todos nós amamos, mas recentemente, houve um problema. Meu marido estava na casa deles enquanto a noiva do meu filho estava terminando de se arrumar para o encontro deles. (Eles moram a 10 minutos de nós, e meu marido tem ido lá com frequência desde que se aposentou.) Ela respondeu dizendo que eles tinham uma reserva e meu marido divaga e não tem noção do conceito de que outras pessoas nem sempre têm tempo para se envolver com ele. Ela então mencionou vários casos em que meu marido fez meu filho se atrasar para algo. Quando perguntamos ao nosso filho, ficamos chocados ao descobrir que ele concordou com ela! Ele disse que não queria falar sobre isso porque o deixava desconfortável. Meu marido gosta de conversar, mas dificilmente vejo isso como um problema.
Abby, estou preocupada. Acho o comportamento dela extremamente desconsiderado. Não quero que meu filho se case com uma mulher mandona que lhe dará ordens e se recusará a ver o nosso lado. Ela disse que falará mais conosco sobre isso somente se concordarmos em consultar um conselheiro para discutir “todos os nossos problemas”. Eu não sabia que TEMOS problemas. Meu filho nunca disse nada antes, mas quando perguntamos, ele disse que concordava com ela. O que fazemos?

Prezados sogros: Dê um passo para trás e pare de tentar defender seu marido e seu filho, que deveriam ter falado antes que sua noiva sentisse que tinha que fazer isso. Se você quer um relacionamento com seu filho e sua futura esposa, aceite a sugestão dela de visitar um terapeuta familiar juntos. Se você fizer isso, isso pode dar a cada um de vocês uma oportunidade de expor suas queixas e elaborar um acordo que pode satisfazer a todos e evitar mais problemas desse tipo no futuro.
