Com a vaga nos playoffs da Major League Soccer já garantida, o Real Salt Lake passará as últimas semanas da temporada regular lutando pela vantagem de jogar em casa na primeira rodada da pós-temporada.
Mas a RSL deixou escapar uma vitória fora de casa na noite de sábado, contentando-se com um empate em 2 a 2 com o Austin FC.
Depois de ambas as equipes terem ficado sem gols no primeiro tempo, o RSL (14-7-10) conseguiu uma vantagem de 2 a 0 no segundo tempo, antes de desistir de dois gols no final.
Matt Crooks, da RSL, abriu o placar aos 48 minutos. Braian Ojeda fez um passe longo para o lado direito do campo para Chicho Arango, que disparou um chute que o goleiro do Austin, Brad Stuver, desviou com o pé direito. O rebote foi direto para Crooks, que chutou para a rede e abriu 1 a 0.
Diogo Gonçalves aumentou a vantagem aos 65 minutos na cobrança de pênalti, após Austin ter sido chamado para uma bola de mão na área.
Ocupando o segundo lugar na Conferência Oeste, o RSL parecia estar caminhando para a vitória antes que Austin (9-13-9) contra-atacasse. Jader Obrian marcou aos 82 minutos e Guiherme Biro fez o empate aos 89.
O empate – combinado com a vitória do LAFC por 2 a 1 sobre o Cincinnati no sábado – derrubou o RSL para o terceiro lugar no Oeste. Os quatro melhores times de cada conferência ganham a vantagem de jogar em casa na primeira rodada dos playoffs.
O RSL teve uma vantagem de 20-19 nos chutes contra o Austin, com cada equipe tendo sete chutes a gol.
O goleiro Zac MacMath fez cinco defesas para o RSL, enquanto Stuver, de Austin, fez quatro.
O Real Salt Lake volta à ação na quarta-feira contra o Minnesota United FC, no America First Field (19h30, Apple TV), antes de visitar o San Jose Earthquakes no próximo sábado.
A campanha da temporada regular da RSL termina com um jogo em casa contra o Vancouver, no dia 19 de outubro.
