O quarterback do Arizona tinha acabado de lançar um passe para touchdown de 35 jardas para assumir uma vantagem de 23-10 faltando 8:34 para o fim do quarto período. O dardo de Fifita foi o golpe final na tentativa tardia de recuperação dos Utes nos momentos finais do jogo.
No final, o número 10 do Utah (4-1, 1-1 Big 12) foi derrotado pelo Arizona (3-1, 1-1) por 23-10 na noite de sábado em Salt Lake City, que foi liderado, em parte, por um péssimo desempenho ofensivo nos três primeiros quartos do jogo.
“Não foi uma boa noite para os Utes”, disse o técnico do Utah, Kyle Whittingham, após o jogo. “Fomos horríveis na zona vermelha. Horrível. E, até resolvermos isso, continuaremos a ter problemas. … Nós simplesmente desperdiçamos essas oportunidades.”
O ataque de Utah lutou muito na zona vermelha, fazendo 1 de 3 no primeiro tempo e 2 de 4 no final do jogo.
Os Utes também foram ineficientes em 6 de 15 nas terceiras descidas.
“Simplesmente não estamos executando bem o suficiente”, disse o running back sênior do Utes, Micah Bernard, após o jogo. “Temos que entrar em campo e executar. Não estamos fazendo isso. Acho que isso será uma ênfase nas próximas semanas. Isso é inaceitável para nós.”
O quarterback calouro Isaac Wilson fez sua terceira partida consecutiva no lugar do lesionado Cam Rising, que ainda está doente devido a uma lesão na mão direita que sofreu contra Baylor.
Wilson terminou o jogo em 20 de 40, com 280 jardas de passe, duas interceptações e um touchdown. Ele agora tem sete interceptações na temporada.
A defesa de Utah, que ficou em 19º lugar nacionalmente no início do confronto, não conseguiu impedir o ataque de Fifita e dos Wildcats. Ao todo, permitiu 197 jardas de passe e 161 jardas de corrida.
Em seguida, Utah entrará em sua semana de folga antes de enfrentar o Arizona State (3-1, 0-1) às 20h30 MT na sexta-feira, 11 de outubro, em Tempe, Arizona.
“Temos um time de futebol muito bom”, disse Whittingham. “Só temos que descobrir um pouco de futebol situacional e fazer com que todos se comprometam e se dediquem novamente para terminar a segunda metade da temporada com força.”
