A UCF abriu sua programação do Big 12 com uma improvável vitória de virada sobre o TCU no sábado, quando os Knights superaram os Horned Frogs por 28 a 6 nos 25 minutos finais para superar um déficit de 21 pontos e vencer por 35 a 34.
Aqui estão três coisas aprendidas com a vitória:
RJ Harvey dá um passo à frente novamente
Harvey terminou com 180 jardas de corrida, o recorde da temporada, em 29 corridas, o recorde da carreira, com 2 touchdowns contra os Horned Frogs. A maioria de suas jardas veio no segundo tempo, quando ele correu por 140 jardas.
O running back do quinto ano tem 448 jardas em 59 corridas com 8 touchdowns corridos nos três primeiros jogos. Ele adicionou uma recepção de touchdown de 29 jardas no primeiro tempo com um passe de wheel-route.
A defesa luta para chegar ao quarterback
A UCF não conseguiu um sack de quarterback pela segunda vez nesta temporada e pela quarta vez nos últimos seis jogos, voltando à temporada passada. A falta de pressão permitiu que o quarterback da TCU, Josh Hoover, completasse 35 de 52 passes para 402 jardas e 4 touchdowns.
Hoover converteu 11 de 15 tentativas de passe para 116 jardas e um touchdown em terceiras descidas.
“Não colocamos muita pressão nele”, disse o técnico Gus Malzahn. “Essa foi uma das histórias do jogo. Conseguimos descobrir como colocar mais pressão no quarterback.”
Frustrado por chutes bloqueados
O kicker Colton Boomer teve duas tentativas de field goal (47, 27) e um chute de ponto extra bloqueado no primeiro tempo contra os Horned Frogs. Foi a primeira vez que a UCF teve pelo menos dois chutes bloqueados desde sua derrota por 24-23 para o Texas Tech em novembro.
Boomer voltou para marcar o ponto extra da vitória após a recepção de touchdown de 20 jardas de Kobe Hudson faltando 36 segundos, o que levou o time à vitória.
“Fizemos um trabalho ruim em dois chutes bloqueados”, disse Malzahn. “O primeiro field goal provavelmente foi baixo, mas encontramos um jeito e superamos.”
