O Reino Unido, a França e a Alemanha anunciaram novas sanções ao Irã por fornecer à Rússia mísseis balísticos para uso na Ucrânia, incluindo restrições à capacidade da Iran Air de voar para o Reino Unido e a Europa.
Também entre as novas medidas, que foram anunciadas durante a visita do Secretário de Estado dos EUA, Antony Blinken, a Londres, estão as proibições de viagem de vários oficiais militares iranianos.
O Sr. Blinken disse que os russos foram treinados pelas forças iranianas para usar mísseis de curto alcance e que eles poderiam ser usados contra ucranianos em poucas semanas.
Seu anfitrião, o secretário de Relações Exteriores do Reino Unido, David Lammy, disse que as entregas iranianas marcaram uma “escalada perigosa” que permitiu à Rússia “alimentar sua invasão ilegal da Ucrânia”.
“O Irão deve deixar de apoiar [Russian President Vladimir] O ataque não provocado, premeditado e bárbaro de Putin contra um estado democrático soberano”, disse o Sr. Lammy. “O Reino Unido ficará com a Ucrânia pelo tempo que for preciso.”
Falando anteriormente, ao lado do Sr. Lammy em uma entrevista coletiva em Londres, o Sr. Blinken disse que o presidente russo, Vladimir Putin, estava “cada vez mais contando com o apoio” do Irã e da Coreia do Norte para ajudar a “travar sua guerra de agressão contra a Ucrânia”.
O Ministério das Relações Exteriores do Reino Unido anunciou sanções específicas contra vários indivíduos-chave que, segundo ele, estavam fortemente envolvidos no fornecimento de mísseis, incluindo o Brig Gen iraniano Seyed Hamzeh Ghalandari, que comanda as exportações de produtos de defesa do país para seus parceiros. Ele foi colocado sob proibição de viagem e congelamento de bens, junto com outros dois oficiais iranianos.
Cinco navios de carga russos também foram sancionados por transportar suprimentos militares do Irã, apesar do que o Reino Unido disse serem repetidos avisos para não fazê-lo.
Enquanto isso, várias organizações, incluindo algumas supostamente envolvidas na produção dos drones Shahed, do estilo kamikaze do Irã — que a Rússia tem usado consistentemente em ataques a cidades ucranianas — foram sancionadas.
Em uma declaração, o Reino Unido, a França e a Alemanha — conhecidos como E3 — pediram ao Irã “que cessasse imediatamente todo o apoio à guerra da Rússia contra a Ucrânia e interrompesse o desenvolvimento e as transferências de seus mísseis balísticos”.
Eles acrescentaram que o fornecimento de mísseis do Irã representava uma “ameaça direta à segurança europeia”.
O Sr. Blinken repetiu a declaração da E3, dizendo que a medida “demonstra como a influência desestabilizadora do Irã se estende muito além do Oriente Médio”.
As sanções ocidentais ocorrem num momento em que a Rússia continua a fazer avanços no leste da Ucrânia, com as forças de Moscou se aproximando rapidamente do importante assentamento de Pokrovsk.
Pokrovsk é um centro de transporte essencial. Se cair, as forças russas cortarão uma das principais rotas de suprimento na região. Isso provavelmente forçará a Ucrânia a recuar de Chasiv Yar e a linha de frente se moverá para mais perto de Kramatorsk, uma grande cidade industrial.
As entregas de mísseis de curto alcance do Irã ajudarão o avanço russo, disse Blinken, permitindo que Moscou use mais de seu arsenal existente para alvos que estão mais distantes da linha de frente, enquanto reserva os novos mísseis para alvos de menor alcance.
O principal diplomata dos EUA criticou o novo governo iraniano, liderado pelo presidente Masoud Pezeshkian, que supostamente deseja um relacionamento menos adverso com o Ocidente.
“O novo presidente e ministro das Relações Exteriores do Irã disseram repetidamente que querem restaurar o engajamento com a Europa. Eles querem receber alívio de sanções. Ações desestabilizadoras como essas vão conseguir exatamente o oposto”, disse ele.
O Sr. Blinken e o Sr. Lammy também anunciaram uma viagem conjunta à Ucrânia esta semana, a primeira viagem conjunta em anos, enquanto diplomatas do Reino Unido buscam enquadrar a visita do secretário de Estado como uma reafirmação de uma parceria estreita entre os dois países, frequentemente descrita como “relacionamento especial”.
O Sr. Blinken disse que um dos objetivos antes da visita era “ouvir diretamente da liderança ucraniana” sobre seus “objetivos e o que podemos fazer para apoiar essas necessidades”.
O primeiro-ministro do Reino Unido, Sir Keir Starmer, deixou claro que o governo do Reino Unido continuará apoiando a Ucrânia e enviará £ 3 bilhões em apoio militar ao país pelo tempo que for necessário.
Na semana passada, o governo do Reino Unido disse que enviaria centenas de mísseis de curto alcance para a Ucrânia em um pacote avaliado em £ 162 milhões.
Mas o presidente ucraniano Volodymyr Zelensky criticou o ritmo das entregas de armas e pediu autorização para atingir alvos no interior da Rússia com mísseis fornecidos pelo Ocidente — uma medida à qual os EUA têm resistido até agora.
O Sr. Blinken não quis saber qual será a resposta desta vez ao apelo de longa data do Presidente Zelensky durante as negociações em Kiev.
