Mikko Rantanen vai assinar um contrato muito longo e muito lucrativo em um futuro próximo, e ele não está preocupado que isso ainda não tenha acontecido.
Rantanen tem um ano restante em seu acordo atual, com um valor médio anual de US$ 9,25 milhões. Ele se tornaria um agente livre irrestrito em 1º de julho se ele e o Colorado Avalanche não chegarem a um acordo antes disso.
“Acho que houve conversas com meu acampamento e a diretoria. Está feito quando estiver feito”, disse Rantanen. “Os negócios vão cuidar de si mesmos. Estou aqui apenas para jogar hóquei e me preparar para outra temporada e tentar ajudar meu time a vencer.
“Esse é meu objetivo. Meu trabalho é tentar ajudar esse time a vencer.”
O finlandês nativo se tornou um dos cinco melhores alas do esporte nas últimas temporadas. Rantanen marcou 55 gols, o recorde da carreira, há dois anos, e então conquistou sua segunda temporada consecutiva com mais de 100 pontos em 2023-24.
Rantanen marcou 163 gols nas últimas quatro temporadas. Há quatro jogadores na NHL que têm mais: Auston Matthews (210), Leon Draisaitl (179), Connor McDavid (173) e David Pastrnak (168).
Todos os quatro jogadores possuem contratos com um AAV de pelo menos $ 11,25 milhões. Draisaitl assinou recentemente um pacto de oito anos que começa na próxima temporada com um AAV de $ 14 milhões, que ultrapassa Matthews ($ 13,25 milhões) como o mais alto da liga.
“Eu acho que é para onde a liga está indo, eu diria”, disse Rantanen sobre o acordo de Draisaitl. “Estou feliz por ele. Eu não o conheço tão bem. Eu o encontrei algumas vezes, mas é bem merecido, com certeza. Ele é um jogador irreal.”
Não há dúvidas de que Rantanen merecerá um aumento em seu próximo acordo, mas o quão grande será esse aumento terá algum impacto no planejamento de longo prazo para o Avalanche. O teto salarial da NHL aumentou para US$ 88 milhões para esta temporada, um aumento de US$ 4,5 milhões.
É o primeiro aumento significativo desde a pandemia da COVID-19. A NHL também espera que o teto aumente novamente para a próxima temporada, com múltiplas projeções sugerindo que ficará na faixa de US$ 92 milhões.
Os Avs têm US$ 12,6 milhões e US$ 7,25 milhões comprometidos com Nathan MacKinnon e Devon Toews até 2031, respectivamente. Gabe Landeskog e Valeri Nichushkin também estão ambos sob contrato por um total de US$ 13,125 milhões por temporada até pelo menos 2029, mas suas situações são menos claras.
O teto salarial de Cale Makar será de US$ 9 milhões por mais duas temporadas além desta antes que ele também receba um aumento considerável. Se o teto salarial da NHL continuar a aumentar, será mais fácil para um time como o Avs ter três jogadores em contratos de oito dígitos.
Jack Eichel se tornou o primeiro jogador a levantar a Stanley Cup com um AAV de mais de US$ 10 milhões em 2023 com Vegas, e a Flórida se tornou o primeiro time com dois jogadores com contratos de oito dígitos (Aleksander Barkov, Sergei Bobrovsky) a vencer em 2024. Os Panthers também têm Matthew Tkachuk com US$ 9,5 milhões.
“Eu meio que quero deixar que isso se resolva sozinho”, disse Rantanen. “Eu gosto do time. Eu gosto da cidade. Nós ganhamos a Stanley Cup aqui. Por que eu iria querer ir embora? Essa é a única coisa que eu quero dizer sobre isso. Mas vamos ver. Está feito quando estiver feito.”
