As autoridades de saúde pública do condado procuravam no sábado pessoas que pudessem ter entrado em contato com um morcego selvagem encontrado no San Diego Zoo Safari Park há quase uma semana.
Em 23 de setembro, um morcego selvagem que foi coletado por um funcionário na área do parque Africa Tram testou positivo para raiva, de acordo com o Escritório de Comunicações do Condado de San Diego.
As autoridades pediram a qualquer pessoa que estivesse na área do Eléctrico Africano no dia 23 de Setembro e tivesse contacto directo com um morcego antes das 14h15 que contactasse os Serviços de Saúde Pública do Condado o mais rapidamente possível.
“Os visitantes do parque que não tiveram contato físico com o morcego não correm risco de contrair raiva”, disseram as autoridades.
“A raiva humana é geralmente fatal sem vacina e tratamento pós-exposição imediatos”, disse a oficial de saúde pública do condado de San Diego, Dra. Ankita Kadakia. “A transmissão da raiva pode acontecer a partir de uma mordida de morcego ou se a saliva de um morcego entrar em contato com um corte ou abrasão, ou com membranas mucosas, como olhos, nariz ou boca.”
O condado disse que as autoridades detectaram cinco morcegos raivosos em toda a região de San Diego em 2024. Existem muitas espécies de morcegos encontradas no condado de San Diego que se alimentam de insetos, como mosquitos. Outras espécies de morcegos se alimentam do néctar das plantas e as polinizam no processo.
As autoridades do condado aconselharam que, se você entrar em contato com um morcego, lave bem a área afetada com água e sabão e procure orientação médica imediatamente.
