Dias após a abertura do campo de treinamento do Jets 2023, o técnico do Broncos, Sean Payton, enviou ondas de choque por todos os círculos da NFL.
Em um artigo do USA Today, Payton fez comentários depreciativos sobre seu antecessor e atual coordenador ofensivo dos Jets, Nathaniel Hackett.
“Pode ter sido um dos piores trabalhos de treinador da história da NFL”, disse Payton no artigo. “Foi tão ruim assim.”
Como muitos poderiam esperar, os comentários de Payton não foram bem recebidos nas instalações dos Jets. O técnico dos Jets, Robert Saleh, respondeu citando uma música do artista rap Rico Richie, dizendo: “Se você não tem nenhum hater, você não está estourando”.
O quarterback dos Jets, Aaron Rodgers, foi um pouco mais direto em seus comentários.
“Achei que era muito errado, inapropriado, e acho que ele precisa manter os nomes dos meus treinadores fora da boca”, disse Rodgers à NFL Network.
Os Jets derrotaram os Broncos no ano passado e se vingaram de Payton após seus comentários. Gang Green e Denver se encontrarão novamente no domingo pela quinta temporada consecutiva.
Algum tempo se passou desde que a briga entre os dois lados começou, e Rodgers e os Jets parecem prontos para deixar o passado ser passado.

Embora a briga entre Jets (2-1) e Broncos (1-2) tenha diminuído, o jogo de domingo é significativo para ambos os lados. Depois de perder a abertura da temporada para o San Francisco, o Gang Green se recuperou e venceu os dois últimos jogos.
O ataque dos Jets está clicando em todos os cilindros. Pela primeira vez desde 1989 e pela quarta vez na história da franquia, o ataque dos Jets marcou três touchdowns nos três primeiros jogos da temporada.
Rodgers está saindo de seu melhor jogo desde que rompeu o tendão de Aquiles em quatro jogadas na estreia pelos Jets na temporada passada. Na vitória por 24-3 contra os Patriots, Rodgers completou 27 de 35 passes para 281 jardas e dois touchdowns.
O jogo de domingo é significativo para os Jets por alguns motivos. Rodgers e o wide receiver Garrett Wilson não tiveram a química que muitos esperavam desde o início da temporada. Wilson tem 15 recepções para 150 jardas e um touchdown em três jogos.

A outra razão pela qual o confronto contra o Broncos é essencial é a próxima agenda dos Jets em outubro. Começando com o jogo em Londres em 6 de outubro, os próximos três adversários dos Jets (Vikings, Bills e Steelers) têm atualmente um recorde de 9-0 no início da temporada. Isso também não inclui o jogo de 31 de outubro contra os Texans, que estão por 2 a 1 e sua única derrota foi para os Vikings.

Depois de uma derrota difícil contra o 49ers na semana 1, o ataque e a defesa dos Jets pareciam dignos de campeonato contra os Patriots. Gang Green também pareceu lento no primeiro tempo contra o Tennessee na Semana 2. A defesa dos Jets também foi abaixo da média contra o 49ers, permitindo oito gols consecutivos para encerrar o jogo.

“Consistência, você sabe”, disse Rodgers. “Acho que são mensagens consistentes vindas de cima e depois dos líderes no vestiário exemplificando essas mensagens e depois apenas tentando praticar bons hábitos.
“Não é apenas quando você está nas instalações, é o que você faz quando está em casa? Como você está se preparando? Muitas vezes os jogos são ganhos e perdidos de segunda a sábado de uma semana normal porque é quando você cuida do corpo, descansa, come direito, se prepara da maneira certa, tem as conversas certas, e aí o domingo é só o fim dos seis dias de preparação.”
Depois de perder os dois primeiros jogos, os Broncos conseguiram a primeira vitória da temporada contra os Buccaneers na semana 3.
A defesa dos Jets não jogará contra o ex-quarterback Zach Wilson, que ficará afastado. Eles enfrentarão Bo Nix, escolhido na primeira rodada do draft de 2024, que ainda está em busca de seu primeiro passe para touchdown na NFL depois de lançar quatro interceptações em três jogos.
Embora os Broncos tenham ultrapassado os Buccaneers por 26-7 no fim de semana passado, Nix não lançou um touchdown depois de completar 25 de 36 passes para 216 jardas.
“Tive sorte quando fiz o Senior Bowl, ele era um de nossos zagueiros, então passei muito tempo com ele”, disse o coordenador defensivo dos Jets, Jeff Ulbrich, sobre Nix. “Ele tem aquelas coisas que você simplesmente não consegue treinar. Ele tem essa confiança, essa ousadia, esse estilo, como você quiser chamar.
“Ele é incrivelmente inteligente e um grande competidor. Aí você assiste a fita e vê um cara que está crescendo e se tornando um verdadeiro quarterback nesta liga, então vamos ficar muito ocupados.
“Ele mexe muito as baquetas com os pés. E ele tem alguma resistência quando corre. Ele não é um cara que está procurando o ponto escorregadio do chão. Como se ele fosse lutar por jardas extras e tivéssemos que enfrentá-lo, então ele representa um grande desafio.”
