O ex-técnico da Inglaterra, Sven-Goran Eriksson, foi sepultado, com David Beckham entre os 600 enlutados que compareceram ao seu funeral em Torsby, Suécia.
Em janeiro, Eriksson disse que tinha “na melhor das hipóteses” um ano de vida após ser diagnosticado com câncer, e sua família anunciou que ele havia morrido, aos 76 anos, em 26 de agosto.
O caixão de Eriksson chegou à igreja de Fryksande por volta das 07:00, horário local.
O culto foi realizado em sueco e inglês, com centenas de enlutados reunidos no gramado do lado de fora da igreja para assistir ao culto em uma tela grande.
Durante o elogio, houve referência aos últimos meses de vida de Eriksson, quando ele realizou seu sonho de treinar o Liverpool durante uma partida beneficente em março.
Uma guarda de honra foi formada enquanto seu caixão era colocado em um carro funerário antes de ser levado para Kollsbergs hembygdsgard.
Entre os convidados estavam Roy Hodgson, que sucedeu Eriksson como técnico da Inglaterra, e membros da família real sueca.
Beckham, que foi capitão dos Three Lions durante a gestão de Eriksson, também estava presente.
Eriksson foi o primeiro técnico não britânico da seleção inglesa, levando-a às quartas de final em três grandes torneios durante um período de cinco anos no comando.
Seu pai, Sven, de 95 anos, cumprimentou os enlutados ao lado dos filhos de Eriksson, Lina e Johan.
Eriksson comandou 12 clubes, incluindo Manchester City, Leicester, Roma e Lazio, conquistando 18 troféus.
O sueco também teve passagens pelo México, Costa do Marfim e Filipinas.
Depois de se aposentar como jogador aos 27 anos, ele começou sua carreira de treinador no Degerfors em 1977, antes de se juntar ao clube sueco Gothenburg, onde conquistou o título da liga, duas copas nacionais e a Copa da UEFA de 1982.
Depois, ele teve duas passagens pelo gigante português Benfica, além de treinar os times italianos Roma, Fiorentina, Sampdoria e Lazio, onde conquistou sete troféus, incluindo o título da Série A, duas Copas da Itália e a Recopa Europeia.
