Fortes chuvas começaram a cair e os ventos aumentaram na quinta-feira em Valdosta, Geórgia, perto da divisa do estado da Flórida. O serviço meteorológico disse que mais de uma dúzia de condados da Geórgia poderão ver ventos com força de furacão superiores a 177 km/h.
No sul da Geórgia, duas pessoas morreram quando um possível tornado atingiu uma casa móvel na noite de quinta-feira, disse o xerife do condado de Wheeler, Randy Rigdon, à WMAZ-TV. Os danos foram relatados quando fortes tempestades atingiram grande parte do estado. O condado de Wheeler fica a cerca de 113 quilômetros a sudeste de Macon.
O meteorologista Dylan Lusk disse que o Serviço Meteorológico Nacional emitiu um alerta de tornado para o condado de Wheeler às 20h47 de quinta-feira. Ele disse que é um dos 12 alertas de tornado que o escritório perto de Atlanta emitiu para partes da Geórgia entre 13h e 23h.
A tempestade atingiu a área pouco povoada de Big Bend, lar de vilas de pescadores e refúgios de férias onde o Panhandle e a península da Flórida se encontram.

Ainda assim, Philip Tooke, um pescador comercial que assumiu o negócio que o seu pai fundou perto da Baía de Apalachee, na região, planeou enfrentar esta tempestade como fez durante o furacão Michael e os outros – no seu barco. “Se eu perder isso, não terei nada”, disse Tooke. Michael, uma tempestade de categoria 5, quase destruiu uma cidade, fraturou milhares de casas e empresas e causou cerca de 25 mil milhões de dólares em danos quando atingiu o Panhandle da Florida em 2018.
