NOVA YORK (AP) — Hoda Kotb, presença constante na NBC por mais de duas décadas, disse que deixará seu posto matinal no programa “Today” no início do ano que vem, dizendo à equipe que “está na hora”.
Em um memorando para sua equipe — e mais tarde em uma revelação emocional no ar na quinta-feira — Kotb disse que seu aniversário de 60 anos neste verão ajudou a desencadear a saída: “Eu vi tudo tão claramente: minha carreira na transmissão foi mais do que significativa, uma nova década da minha vida está por vir, e agora minhas filhas e minha mãe precisam e merecem uma fatia maior do meu tempo.”
Kotb é co-âncora do “Today” com Savannah Guthrie desde 2018, substituindo Matt Lauer após ser demitido em meio a alegações de assédio sexual. Ela continuou a co-apresentar a quarta hora do programa matinal com Jenna Bush Hager, tendo apresentado anteriormente ao lado de Kathie Lee Gifford. Kotb entrou para a NBC News como correspondente do “Dateline” em 1998, e depois entrou para o “Today” em 2007.
Suas filhas são Haley, 7, e Hope, 5.
Kotb estava cercada por seus colegas de trabalho quando contou aos espectadores sobre sua decisão, dizendo: “Essa é a coisa mais difícil do mundo” e “Eu estava praticando para não chorar, mas, de qualquer forma, eu chorei”.
“Nós amamos vocês tanto”, disse Guthrie, que co-apresentou o “Today” com Kotb por mais de cinco anos, com lágrimas nos olhos. “E quando você olha ao redor e vê essas lágrimas, elas são amor. Vocês são tão amados. Não queremos imaginar este lugar sem vocês.”
A nota de despedida de Kotb mencionou muitos de seus colegas de trabalho, como Al Roker: “Savannah: minha rocha. Jenna: minha vida de vida ou morte. Al: meu amigo mais antigo na 30 Rock.”
“Feliz e grata, planejo continuar fazendo parte da família NBC, o relacionamento de trabalho mais longo que tive a sorte de manter perto do meu coração. Estarei por perto. Como não poderia? Família é família e todos vocês sempre farão parte da minha”, ela escreveu.
