RICHMOND, Virgínia (AP) – Um júri decidiu a favor de três mulheres que alegaram ter sido abusadas sexualmente enquanto pacientes em um hospital infantil da Virgínia, concedendo-lhes um total de US$ 300 milhões em danos.
O júri do Tribunal do Circuito de Richmond concedeu na sexta-feira a cada mulher US$ 60 milhões em danos compensatórios e US$ 40 milhões em danos punitivos, informou a WTVR-TV.
Um total de 46 ex-pacientes processaram o Hospital Cumberland para Crianças e Adolescentes em New Kent, que trata crianças vulneráveis, e o Dr. Daniel Davidow, diretor médico de longa data do hospital. Neste primeiro ensaio, os três ex-pacientes alegaram que Davidow os tocou de forma inadequada durante os exames de pulso femoral.
“Ter um grupo de pessoas – um grupo de estranhos – para olhar para eles, para ouvi-los, para dizer-lhes que acreditam neles, que acreditam neles, isso os derrubou, os derrubou em lágrimas imediatamente, ” disse Kevin Biniazan, o advogado das mulheres. “Isso nos fez chorar.”
O advogado de Davidow, Bob Donnelly, disse ao júri durante as declarações iniciais que Davidow “nega inequivocamente” as acusações de agressão sexual. Donnelly disse que o exame de pulso femoral realizado por Davidow remonta às décadas de 1960 e 1970 e é um “exame padrão”.
Davidow foi absolvido de acusações criminais de abuso sexual contra dois outros ex-pacientes após um julgamento criminal em abril.
O próximo julgamento civil está marcado para março.
