Clint Holmes contou a história ao longo dos anos, de como ele e seu então empresário entraram no lounge do Palace Station uma noite, cerca de 25 anos atrás.
Holmes tinha acabado de assinar um contrato para ser a atração principal do showroom no Harrah’s. Ele estava em uma missão de reconhecimento para músicos de Vegas para apoiá-lo naquele show.
Mais ou menos na metade do show, o empresário de Holmes virou-se para o showman e disse: “Bem, essa é a sua banda”.
“Tem uns 15 caras lá em cima”, disse Holmes. “Não posso pagar por essa banda.”
“Você não pode pagar não ter aquela banda”, disse o empresário.
Aquela noite deu início à parceria de Holmes com Santa Fé e os chifres da cidade gorda. A banda voltaria para casa para sua temporada de quase sete anos no Harrah’s.
Na segunda-feira à noite, Holmes se reuniu com “The Guys”, como ele os chama, para “The Healing”, como Jerry Lopez se refere aos seus shows, no The Copa no Bootlegger Bistro. Foi o 25º aniversário da banda original de Santa Fe, quando Lopez adicionou a renomada seção de metais.
Holmes estava carregando uma proclamação do prefeito Carolyn Bom Homem proclamando 16 de setembro de 2024 como “Dia de Santa Fé e dos Chifres da Cidade Gorda”. Lorena Violinistao concierge de Las Vegas que administra o Santa Fe Superstore (a mesa de produtos na entrada do clube), surpreendeu Lopez com a proclamação.
Fidler trouxe artista de Las Vegas Neal Portnoy, que presenteou Lopez com uma caricatura encomendada pelos músicos. Lopez é o mais recente de uma cavalgada de figuras do entretenimento de Vegas a ser “Portnoyed” (este que vos fala foi escolhido alguns anos atrás).
No fundo do set, sax ótimo Mindi Abair entrou na banda pela primeira vez e destruiu o lugar. Era o aniversário de 80 anos do pai dela, Lance, e ele também estava na sala. Lance Abair ele próprio é um veterano virtuoso do saxofone com uma longa história de apresentações em VegasVille.
Santa Fe na verdade data de meados dos anos 1970. A seção rítmica começou com um show de apoio a dançarinas de topless no antigo hotel-cassino Thunderbird. Eles reservaram seu primeiro show “de verdade” no Mint em 75.
Desde então, as plataformas do Santa Fe incluem o Nero’s Nook no Caesars Palace, o Lounge no Palms, o lounge (e mais tarde showroom) no Tropicana, o Club Madrid no Sunset Station, o South Point Showroom, o Cabaret Jazz no Smith Center (hoje Myron’s), o Vamp’d no West Sahara (ah, sim) e, finalmente, o The Copa no Bootlegger.
Lenny Lópezjunto com seu irmão Jerry é um cofundador da banda, disse a Holmes após o show que havia mais na história de Holmes selecionando a banda. Um grupo de músicos estava fora da cidade no fim de semana antes do show — Lenny estava pescando em Utah — mas se reuniram imediatamente quando souberam que Holmes estaria na apresentação.
“Eu nunca tinha ouvido isso antes”, Holmes disse com uma risada após o show de segunda-feira. “Foi como uma armação!”
Jerry Lopez concedeu “The Healing” como o título não oficial da banda nos primeiros dias no Palace Station.
“Eu tive um dia horrível e subi no palco e disse: ‘Quer saber? Que a cura comece’”, Lopez me disse uma vez. “A banda começou a tocar, e toda a dor se foi. É uma cura, realmente é, e eu sempre me sinto melhor no final do que no começo.”
