Uma mãe que foi de férias para Ibiza em vez de comparecer à audiência de sentença do filho por seu papel nos tumultos foi condenada a pagar uma indenização.
Seu filho de 12 anos teria demonstrado o “pior tipo de comportamento selvagem” durante dois episódios separados de desordem em Manchester, em 31 de julho e 3 de agosto.
A mãe de 30 anos foi condenada a pagar uma indenização de £ 1.200 – aproximadamente o mesmo preço das suas férias – e recebeu uma ordem parental.
O menino, que não pode ser identificado devido à sua idade, recebeu uma ordem de prisão de 12 meses e foi informado de que, se fosse adulto, poderia ter sido enviado para a prisão por um período entre quatro e cinco anos.
O menino admitiu dois episódios distintos de desordem, o primeiro quando ele fez parte de uma multidão que atacou um ônibus do lado de fora de um hotel que abrigava requerentes de asilo em Manchester, em 31 de julho.
Poucos dias depois, ele fez parte de um grupo filmado chutando as janelas de uma loja de cigarros eletrônicos e jogando um míssil em uma van da polícia.
A juíza distrital Joanne Hirst disse ao jovem no Tribunal de Magistrados de Manchester que ele havia demonstrado “o pior tipo de comportamento selvagem”.
Sua mãe, que havia dito ao juiz que suas férias na ilha espanhola custaram £ 1.000, foi condenada a pagar £ 300 cada ao motorista do ônibus, a um agente de alojamento do hotel de asilo, a um requerente de asilo que estava no ônibus atacado e a um funcionário da loja Sainsbury’s saqueada.
O juiz disse a ela: “Você sabe que é aproximadamente o mesmo custo das suas férias em Ibiza.”
Ela também ordenou que a mãe do menino participasse de um curso de criação de filhos com duração de seis meses.
O menino, que tem TDAH, foi descrito como um “menino adorável e afetuoso” por sua mãe solteira, mas que às vezes tinha uma vida familiar “caótica”.
Ele disse ao juiz que estava “arrependido” e agora tinha ajuda de assistentes sociais e começou a lutar boxe.
Menores de 18 anos que comparecem a tribunais de menores não podem ser identificados por razões legais, então sua mãe não pode ser identificada, pois isso levaria à sua identificação.
O Serviço de Promotoria Pública disse que, na confusão de 31 de julho, por volta das 18:00 BST, o menino foi flagrado por câmeras de segurança como parte de um grupo que se tornou agressivo, atirando pedras e outros mísseis contra policiais que tentavam proteger os funcionários e moradores do hotel.
O menino foi visto entregando uma pedra para outro menino no local.
Mais tarde, o grupo, que estava na estrada, parou um ônibus cheio de passageiros e o garoto foi visto em câmeras de segurança dando chutes no ônibus de sua bicicleta.
