Um membro de uma gangue de Norfolk foi considerado culpado na quarta-feira pelo assassinato de um homem de 18 anos durante uma tentativa de roubo em frente a uma loja de conveniência no ano passado.
Um júri no Tribunal do Circuito de Norfolk deliberou cerca de duas horas antes de condenar Cevan Pierce Jr. por homicídio de primeiro grau, homicídio por multidão, roubo e duas acusações de porte de arma, de acordo com os promotores. A sentença para o jovem de 25 anos está marcada para 20 de dezembro. A acusação de homicídio de primeiro grau sozinha acarreta uma possível sentença de prisão perpétua.
Os dois réus de Pierce, TyJohn Brooks e Da’Shaun Robinson, aceitaram acordos de confissão de culpa e, como resultado, enfrentam uma pena substancialmente menor de prisão.
Robinson, 24, declarou-se culpado em julho por homicídio de segundo grau. Ele pode pegar até 40 anos de prisão quando for sentenciado em novembro. Brooks, 20, declarou-se culpado em setembro por homicídio de segundo grau e conspiração. Ele pode pegar até 80 anos quando for sentenciado em dezembro.
Antonio Wilson foi morto em 8 de abril de 2023, do lado de fora da loja de conveniência Shop ‘N Go na East Virginia Beach Boulevard, em frente ao Attucks Theatre.
De acordo com um comunicado à imprensa do Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, as imagens de vigilância da loja mostraram Pierce, Brooks e Robinson dentro da loja quando Wilson entrou para fazer uma compra. Brooks é visto “encarando a vítima” e, em seguida, discutindo algo com seus amigos antes de sair com eles, disse o comunicado.
Imagens de vigilância gravadas do lado de fora da loja mostraram os três homens confrontando Wilson depois que ele saiu, disse o comunicado. Enquanto Brooks apontava uma arma para a cabeça de Wilson e alcançava sua cintura, Pierce e Robinson também apontaram armas para ele.
Todos os três homens começaram a atirar quando Wilson se virou e estendeu a mão em direção à cintura, disse o comunicado, atingindo-o várias vezes na cabeça e no lado. Pierce agarrou a arma de Wilson e todos os três homens fugiram da cena, disse o comunicado. Wilson foi declarado morto logo após chegar a um hospital.
Brooks e Pierce já eram conhecidos pela polícia por suas afiliações a gangues, disse o comunicado. Cartazes de procurados de Pierce mostram que ele tem uma tatuagem “Gotti Gang” na parte da frente do pescoço.
Brooks foi preso duas semanas depois em Florence, Carolina do Sul. Pierce foi preso um mês depois do tiroteio, após uma perseguição policial por todo o sul de Hampton Roads.
Robinson, que anteriormente foi condenado a seis anos de prisão por atirar e ferir gravemente o pit bull de um policial de Virginia Beach durante uma invasão em 2017 na casa do policial, foi preso cinco meses depois. Robinson estava usando uma máscara de esqui listrada durante o tiroteio de Wilson, que foi encontrada em um carro no local, disse o comunicado. Testes de DNA mais tarde o compararam com a máscara, disseram os promotores.
