Sua filha Keiko Fujimori postou nas redes sociais dizendo que o ex-presidente havia morrido “após uma longa batalha contra o câncer”.
Apoiadores de Fujimori começaram a se reunir do lado de fora de sua casa assim que sua filha publicou o anúncio de sua morte.
“Após uma longa batalha contra o câncer, nosso pai, Alberto Fujimori, acaba de partir para encontrar o Senhor”, disseram seus filhos Keiko, Hiro, Sachie e Kenji em uma declaração conjunta.
“Pedimos àqueles que o amavam que se juntem a nós em orações pelo descanso eterno de sua alma.
“Obrigado por tanto, pai!”
Para os apoiadores de Fujimori, ele foi o homem que salvou o Peru de um grupo rebelde maoísta brutal, o Sendero Luminoso (Sendero Luminoso), e que colocou a economia de volta nos trilhos após a inflação disparada.
Mas para milhares de vítimas inocentes do conflito, Fujimori era uma figura autoritária e um líder brutal.
Filho de imigrantes japoneses, Fujimori governou com mão de ferro, e seu mandato foi marcado por reviravoltas dramáticas.
