TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Diminuindo as esperanças de um cessar-fogo, o primeiro-ministro Benjamin Netanyahu disse na quinta-feira que Israel planeja continuar atacando o Hezbollah “com força total” e não vai parar até que todos os seus objetivos sejam alcançados.
Netanyahu falou ao desembarcar em Nova York para participar da reunião anual da Assembleia Geral da ONU e enquanto autoridades americanas e europeias pressionavam por uma interrupção de 21 dias nos conflitos entre Israel e o Hezbollah do Líbano para dar tempo às negociações.
Pouco tempo antes de sua declaração, o exército israelense disse ter matado um comandante de drone do Hezbollah em um ataque aéreo a um prédio de apartamentos nos subúrbios da capital libanesa.
Netanyahu disse que a “política de Israel é clara. Continuamos a atacar o Hezbollah com força total. E não pararemos até atingirmos todos os nossos objetivos, o principal deles o retorno dos moradores do norte em segurança para suas casas.”
Israel intensificou dramaticamente os ataques no Líbano esta semana, dizendo que está mirando o Hezbollah. Líderes israelenses disseram que estão determinados a parar mais de 11 meses de fogo transfronteiriço do grupo em Israel, o que forçou a evacuação de dezenas de milhares de israelenses de comunidades no norte.
A declaração moderou as esperanças para a iniciativa internacional que visa interromper as trocas de tiros cada vez mais pesadas que mataram centenas de pessoas no Líbano e ameaçaram desencadear uma guerra total entre Israel e o Hezbollah. Israel falou sobre uma possível invasão terrestre no Líbano para afastar o grupo militante da fronteira.
Logo após a declaração ser emitida, a estação de TV do Hezbollah Al-Manar relatou um ataque aéreo israelense em um subúrbio de Beirute. Ela e outras estações mostraram um prédio de apartamentos danificado em Dahiyeh, o subúrbio predominantemente xiita onde o Hezbollah tem uma forte presença.
Mais tarde, o exército israelense disse que o ataque matou Mohammed Hussein Surour. O Hezbollah não fez nenhum comentário imediato sobre a alegação.
Duas pessoas morreram e 15 ficaram feridas no ataque, informou o Ministério da Saúde libanês.
Na semana passada, Israel realizou vários ataques em Beirute visando comandantes seniores do Hezbollah. Mais cedo no dia, um ataque no leste do Líbano matou 20 pessoas, a maioria delas migrantes sírios, de acordo com autoridades de saúde libanesas.
Israel intensificou dramaticamente seu bombardeio no Líbano, dizendo que está determinado a parar os ataques quase diários de foguetes do Hezbollah nos últimos 11 meses, que forçaram dezenas de milhares a evacuar suas casas no norte de Israel. Ataques desde segunda-feira mataram mais de 630 pessoas no Líbano, cerca de um quarto delas mulheres e crianças, de acordo com autoridades de saúde locais. A intensificação dos bombardeios do Hezbollah feriu várias pessoas em Israel.
O Hezbollah ainda não respondeu à proposta de uma pausa na luta. O primeiro-ministro interino do Líbano, Najib Mikati, a acolheu, mas seu governo não tem influência sobre o grupo.
O Hezbollah insistiu que interromperia seus ataques somente se houvesse um cessar-fogo em Gaza, onde Israel lutou contra o Hamas por quase um ano. Isso parece fora de alcance, apesar de meses de negociações lideradas pelos Estados Unidos, Egito e Qatar.
Em sua declaração, o gabinete de Netanyahu disse que “os combates em Gaza também continuarão até que todos os objetivos da guerra sejam alcançados”. Espera-se que Netanyahu se encontre com outros líderes mundiais à margem da Assembleia Geral da ONU.
Um dos parceiros de governo de extrema direita de Netanyahu ameaçou na quinta-feira suspender a cooperação com seu governo se ele assinar um cessar-fogo temporário com o Hezbollah – e sair completamente se um acordo permanente for alcançado. Foi o mais recente sinal de descontentamento dos aliados de Netanyahu em relação aos esforços internacionais de cessar-fogo.
“Se um cessar-fogo temporário se tornar permanente, renunciaremos ao governo”, disse o ministro da Segurança Nacional, Itamar Ben-Gvir, chefe do partido Poder Judaico.
Se Ben-Gvir deixar a coalizão, Netanyahu perderá sua maioria parlamentar e poderá ver seu governo cair, embora os líderes da oposição tenham dito que ofereceriam apoio a um acordo de cessar-fogo.
Israel lançou uma operação massiva em Gaza após um ataque liderado pelo Hamas no sul de Israel em 7 de outubro, no qual cerca de 1.200 pessoas, a maioria civis, foram mortas, e cerca de 250 foram feitas reféns. A campanha israelense matou mais de 41.000 palestinos em Gaza, de acordo com autoridades locais.
O Hamas foi designado como uma organização terrorista pelos Estados Unidos, Canadá e União Europeia.
O Hezbollah começou a disparar foguetes contra Israel um dia após o ataque de 7 de outubro em apoio aos seus aliados do Hamas, e o Hezbollah e Israel têm trocado tiros desde então.
As famílias israelenses dos reféns disseram que estão pressionando por um possível acordo de cessar-fogo para o Líbano que inclua disposições para a guerra em Gaza, especialmente garantindo a libertação de cerca de 70 reféns que ainda estão supostamente vivos e dos corpos de cerca de outros 30.
Gil Dickmann, cujo primo Carmel Gat foi sequestrado e foi um dos seis israelenses cujos corpos foram recuperados de túneis em Gaza em agosto, disse que as famílias dos reféns estão se sentindo esquecidas conforme a atenção se desloca para a frente norte. Ele pediu a Netanyahu que chegasse a uma trégua com o Hezbollah e o Hamas com disposições para a libertação de reféns.
“Sabemos que essas coisas estão conectadas umas às outras, a parte norte e a parte sul”, disse Dickmann na terça-feira. “Estamos muito preocupados que, se não tomarmos as decisões certas agora, perderemos esta oportunidade incrível de tirar os reféns.”
Antes desta semana, os bombardeios transfronteiriços entre o Hezbollah e o exército israelense mataram cerca de 600 pessoas no Líbano, a maioria combatentes, mas incluindo mais de 100 civis, e cerca de quatro dúzias de pessoas em Israel, aproximadamente metade delas soldados e o restante civis. Os combates também forçaram dezenas de milhares a fugir de suas casas em ambos os lados da fronteira.
Líderes israelenses disseram que estão determinados a forçar o Hezbollah a recuar da fronteira para permitir que seus cidadãos retornem para suas casas. Eles moveram milhares de tropas para a ordem em preparação para uma possível operação terrestre.
Ele diz que seus ataques intensificados no Líbano na semana passada estão mirando lançadores de foguetes do Hezbollah e outras infraestruturas militares. O Hezbollah, por sua vez, disparou centenas de foguetes contra Israel, dizendo que estão mirando posições militares israelenses. Na quarta-feira, eles dispararam contra Tel Aviv pela primeira vez com um míssil de longo alcance que foi interceptado.
Na quinta-feira de manhã, um ataque aéreo israelense atingiu um prédio que abrigava trabalhadores sírios e suas famílias perto da antiga cidade de Baalbek, no Vale de Bekaa, no leste do Líbano. O Ministério da Saúde libanês disse que 19 sírios e um libanês foram mortos, um dos ataques mais mortais na campanha aérea intensificada de Israel. A agência de notícias estatal havia relatado inicialmente que 23 pessoas estavam mortas.
Hussein Salloum, uma autoridade local em Younine, disse que a maioria dos mortos eram mulheres e crianças.
“Nós escavamos os escombros com nossas próprias mãos” até que uma pequena escavadeira foi trazida, Salloum disse à The Associated Press por telefone. “Tínhamos capacidades muito limitadas.”
O Líbano, com uma população de cerca de 6 milhões, abriga quase 780.000 refugiados sírios registrados e centenas de milhares não registrados — a maior população de refugiados per capita do mundo.
Israel atingiu 75 locais durante a noite no sul e leste do Líbano, disseram os militares. Pelo menos 45 projéteis foram disparados do Líbano na quinta-feira de manhã, todos os quais foram interceptados ou caíram em áreas abertas, disseram.
