O Centro Nacional de Furacões está monitorando três sistemas em desenvolvimento com chances crescentes de se formar na próxima depressão ou tempestade tropical da temporada, ao mesmo tempo que segue o furacão Isaac e a tempestade tropical Joyce no Atlântico.
O sistema com maior probabilidade de ameaçar os EUA é um sistema que o NHC espera formar nas Caraíbas e que poderá atingir o Golfo do México.
A partir da previsão tropical do NHC às 8h, os meteorologistas prevêem a formação de uma área de baixa pressão sobre o Caribe Ocidental em poucos dias.
“As condições ambientais parecem ser propícias ao desenvolvimento gradual, e uma depressão tropical pode se formar em meados desta semana, enquanto a perturbação serpenteia em direção oeste-noroeste”, disseram os meteorologistas. “Espera-se então que este sistema se mova para noroeste, em direcção ao Golfo do México, durante a última parte desta semana, e os interesses no noroeste do Mar das Caraíbas e ao longo da Costa do Golfo dos EUA deverão monitorizar o seu progresso.”
O NHC dá 50% de chance de desenvolvimento nos próximos sete dias.
As águas quentes do Golfo foram a forma como o furacão Helene ganhou força em circunstâncias semelhantes, começando como um “potencial ciclone tropical”, mas depois crescendo para um grande furacão de categoria 4 que devastou a costa do Golfo da Flórida antes de atingir a região de Big Bend do estado e subir rapidamente para o sudeste dos EUA
O furacão é responsável por pelo menos 64 mortes em cinco estados, incluindo 11 na Flórida.
Outro sistema com grandes probabilidades de se desenvolver esta semana é uma área ampla e alongada de baixa pressão associada a uma onda tropical com aguaceiros desorganizados e trovoadas no Atlântico oriental, localizada a algumas centenas de quilómetros a oeste-sudoeste das ilhas de Cabo Verde.
“As condições ambientais são propícias ao desenvolvimento gradual deste sistema, e é provável que uma depressão tropical se forme durante o início ou meio desta semana, enquanto o sistema se move inicialmente para oeste e depois para noroeste através do Atlântico tropical oriental e central”, disseram os meteorologistas.
O NHC dá 60% de chance de desenvolvimento nos próximos dois dias e 80% nos próximos sete.
Uma onda tropical localizada perto da costa da África Ocidental está actualmente a produzir chuvas limitadas. Algum desenvolvimento gradual deste sistema é possível durante os próximos dias, enquanto ele se move lentamente para oeste ou oeste-noroeste sobre o leste do Oceano Atlântico.
O NHC dá 20% de chance de se desenvolver nos próximos sete dias.
Também no Atlântico, mas sem ameaça à terra, estão o furacão Isaac e a tempestade tropical Joyce.
De acordo com o aviso do NHC às 8h, Isaac era um furacão de categoria 1 com ventos sustentados de 80 mph movendo-se para nordeste a 13 mph, localizado a cerca de 950 milhas a noroeste dos Açores. Os ventos com força de furacão se estendem por 45 milhas e os ventos com força de tempestade tropical se estendem por 205 milhas.
“Está prevista uma viragem para norte-nordeste a meio desta semana em resposta a um vale de nível médio a superior que se aproxima do ciclone vindo de oeste-noroeste. Por volta do período de 72 horas, Isaac deve virar para o norte enquanto se move ao redor da periferia leste de um sistema baroclínico maior de baixa pressão”, disseram os meteorologistas.
A partir do aviso do NHC às 8h, a tempestade tropical Joyce tinha ventos sustentados de 45 mph enquanto se movia para noroeste a 9 mph, localizada a cerca de 1.1.000 milhas a leste do norte das Ilhas Leeward. Ventos com força de tempestade tropical se estendem por 170 quilômetros.
Os meteorologistas disseram que é mais provável que Joyce enfraqueça nos próximos dias.
A temporada de furacões no Atlântico de 2024 teve 10 tempestades nomeadas até agora, incluindo dois furacões, dos quais dois se tornaram grandes furacões.
