A Califórnia será ilegal que plataformas de redes sociais proporcionem conteúdo puramente viciante a menores sem o consentimento dos padres a partir de 2027, segundo uma nova lei firmada nos próximos dias pelo governador democrata Gavin Newsom.
Califórnia segue para o estado de Nova York, que este ano aprovou uma lei que permite aos pais impedir que seus filhos recebam publicações nas redes sociais sugeridas pelo algoritmo de uma plataforma. Utah aprovou leis nos últimos anos destinadas a limitar o acesso dos menores às redes sociais, mas enfrentou desafíos nos tribunais.
A lei da Califórnia entrará em vigor em um estado que abriga algumas das maiores empresas de tecnologia do mundo. Propostas semelhantes não foram aprovadas nos últimos anos, mas Newsom firmou uma lei, a primeira no país, em 2022, que proíbe as plataformas on-line de usar as informações pessoais dos usuários de maneira que podem prejudicar as crianças. A medida faz parte de um impulso crescente nos estados de todo o país para tratar de abordar os impactos das redes sociais no bem-estar das crianças.
“Todos os padres sabem o dano que a dependência às redes sociais pode infligir a seus filhos: isolamento do contato humano, estrés e ansiedade, e horas intermináveis perdidas até altas horas da noite”, indicou Newsom em um comunicado. “Com este projeto de lei, a Califórnia está ajudando a proteger as crianças e adolescentes de herramientas projetadas deliberadamente que alimentam esses hábitos destrutivos”.
A lei proíbe às plataformas enviar notificações sem permissão dos pais a menores entre as 00:00 e as 06:00 horas, e entre as 8:00 e as 15:00 horas. de luas a viernes, de setembro a maio, quando as crianças suelen estão na escola. A lei também obriga as plataformas a configurar as contas das crianças como privadas de forma predeterminada.
