Os Padres perderam sete dos últimos 13 jogos.
E não é hora de fazer isso.
“Precisamos começar a jogar nosso melhor beisebol”, disse Jake Cronenworth ontem à noite, depois que os Padres não conseguiram na derrota por 5 a 2 para os Mariners.

Cronenworth continuou afirmando que os Padres estão jogando bem, o que é verdade em geral.
E o fato é que eles não iriam manter o ritmo que estavam saindo do intervalo do All-Star, vencendo 19 de 22 em um ponto. O recorde de 26-8 que eles tiveram de 20 de julho a 27 de agosto empatou o time de 1989 com o melhor período de 34 jogos da história.

Há três vezes mais times nos playoffs em 2024, e os Padres podem até continuar no ritmo das últimas duas semanas e chegar à pós-temporada.
Isso não é preferível, não é o que eles estão pensando. E se acontecer, será uma questão totalmente diferente para abordar.

Tatis encerrou a tentativa de Bryan Woo de fazer um jogo perfeito com uma eliminação na sétima entrada, ao converter uma bola rápida de 95 mph na borda interna e alinhá-la a 115,6 mph na linha do campo esquerdo para seu segundo home run em dois dias.
“Eu o vi sendo agressivo”, Tatis disse sobre Woo, que estava à frente dos Padres a noite toda e passou por seis innings em apenas 67 arremessos. “Eu disse a mim mesmo que tinha que ser mais agressivo do que ele. Eu não… o vi lançando (muitas) bolas quebradas. Então, na terceira rebatida, fui realmente confiante procurando uma bola rápida.”

Foi a segunda bola mais difícil de Tatis em jogo nesta temporada, perdendo apenas para uma rebatida simples de 116,7 mph em 21 de março contra os Dodgers na Coreia do Sul.
Tatis mais tarde fez sua segunda jogada excelente no campo externo em dois dias, quando correu de volta para a parede e saltou para colocar sua luva acima dela e roubar um home run de Randy Arozarena na parte inferior da sétima.

“Eu vi isso de cara”, Tatis disse. “Eu sabia que seria uma disputa acirrada, e eu apenas deixei minhas habilidades jogarem.”
Ele e Arozarena conversaram brevemente no campo enquanto Tatis corria de volta para o banco de reservas.
“Nós estávamos rindo porque Julio roubou uma de mim”, Tatis disse. “E eu disse, ‘Eu queria Julio, mas sinto muito que fosse sua vez.’”
