TAMPA, Flórida — A primeira vitória dos Broncos na temporada de 2024 está garantida.
Antes de terem a chance de jogar na segunda posição no domingo contra o New York Jets, uma semana de trabalho única está por vir.
A equipe ficou aqui na noite de domingo e depois partiu na segunda-feira para White Sulphur Springs, Virgínia Ocidental, onde passarão a semana e treinarão no Greenbrier Resort.
O técnico Sean Payton disse na manhã de segunda-feira que tudo em termos de tempo permanece dentro do cronograma para os Broncos antes de irem para Nova Jersey. As reuniões são no mesmo horário. Os treinos são no mesmo horário. Apenas o local é diferente.
Isso significa que Denver tem a tarefa de usar uma vitória dominante de 26-7 contra os Buccaneers no domingo como trampolim e fazer isso fora de casa.
“Isso nos faz andar muito, especialmente estando na estrada (esta semana)”, disse o safety Brandon Jones aos repórteres na segunda-feira de manhã. “Tivemos muita execução em todas as três fases. Não posso dizer que estamos surpresos porque nos esforçamos e sabemos do que somos capazes de fazer quando estamos todos na mesma página.
“Foi realmente uma grande vitória da equipe.”
Em uma liga tão movida por confrontos particulares como a NFL, os detalhes esquemáticos de um plano em uma semana podem ser virtualmente imateriais na próxima. Mas o que os Broncos podem levar da Flórida quando forem para a Costa Leste, eles dizem, é mais básico do que a execução contra um certo visual ou uma ruga que levou a uma grande jogada.
“Temos um time muito jovem e acho que até que eles experimentem o que tiveram hoje, você realmente não entende o quão difícil é vencer nesta liga”, disse o veterano wide receiver Courtland Sutton após o jogo. “Falei com os caras após o jogo e disse a eles, bloqueiem essa memória. Saibam como é esse sentimento e repliquem isso. Temos que encontrar uma maneira de replicá-lo e continuar a ter esse sentimento.
“Porque essa sensação é 1.000 vezes melhor do que a sensação de ficar aquém.”
Payton gostou da forma como Denver respondeu no domingo, quando perdeu uma chance de nocaute no primeiro tempo. Com 17 a 0 e avançando, o running back do Broncos, Javonte Williams, perdeu a bola. Em vez de potencialmente assumir uma liderança ainda mais dominante, Denver permitiu que os Bucs avançassem pelo campo, pontuassem e chegassem a 17 a 7 com 1 minuto e 50 segundos restantes no primeiro tempo.
Denver, no entanto, montou uma marcha de nove jogadas e 50 jardas na situação de dois minutos e aumentou a vantagem para 13 antes do intervalo.
“Foi uma dessas coisas assistindo, quando Tampa talvez ganhasse um pouco de impulso, o que me deixou feliz foi que conseguimos meio que revidar”, disse Payton. “Aconteceu duas vezes no jogo. Tivemos o fumble e depois o touchdown, mas conseguimos revidar. Acho que isso é importante em relação ao impulso e talvez, obviamente, não tenhamos feito isso tão bem em Seattle.”
Agora o desafio é levar isso adiante. A defesa dos Jets é muito mais perturbadora do que a de Tampa, especialmente considerando que os Bucs jogaram sem os destaques Vita Vea e Antoine Winfield Jr., e são liderados ofensivamente pelo futuro quarterback do Hall da Fama Aaron Rodgers.
Se os Broncos voltarem para casa na noite de domingo, depois de uma longa temporada fora de casa com um histórico de 2-2 e dois jogos divisionais em casa, a temporada será muito diferente de quando eles partiram.
“Eu digo isso o tempo todo: eu não nasci sem um botão de desistir”, disse o jogador de linha defensiva do Broncos, John Franklin-Myers, um ex-Jet, após a vitória de domingo. “Eu posso falar pelo time e dizer a mesma coisa.”
