O Real Salt Lake teve que se contentar com um empate de 3 a 3 com o Portland Timbers na noite de sábado em Sandy, depois de abrir mão de uma vantagem de 2 a 0 no intervalo, recuperando a liderança aos 90 minutos e, então, sofrendo o empate na prorrogação.
Apesar de sair com um empate dramático, o RSL garantiu uma vaga nos playoffs da Major League Soccer pela 14ª vez nas últimas 17 temporadas. O RSL (14-7-9) está em segundo lugar na Conferência Oeste com quatro jogos da temporada regular restantes para jogar.
Diogo Gonçalves marcou no minuto 90 para dar ao RSL uma vantagem de 3-2. Gonçalves acertou um chute do topo da área para seu primeiro gol na MLS, após passe de Chicho Arango. Mas Jonathan Rodriguez marcou para Portland (12-10-8) dois minutos depois para empatar o jogo em 3-3.
O meio-campista do RSL Dominik Marczuk marcou no 10º minuto com uma assistência de Anderson Julio para fazer 1-0. Do lado esquerdo, Julio fez um passe na frente do gol, e Marczuk fez alguns toques antes de chutar para a rede com o pé esquerdo.
Foi o primeiro gol de Mardzuk na MLS, que o RSL adquiriu do campeão polonês Jagiellonia Białystok no mês passado.
Diego Luna marcou aos 22 minutos com assistência de Alexandros Katranis, dando ao RSL uma vantagem de 2 a 0.
Antony, do Portland, marcou aos 62 minutos para fazer 2 a 1, e Evander empatou o jogo aos 76 minutos.
O Real Salt Lake teve uma vantagem de 19-9 em chutes a gol no jogo, mas o TImbers teve uma vantagem de 5-4 em chutes a gol.
O goleiro do RSL, Gavin Beavers, fez duas defesas, e Maxime Crépeau, do Portland, fez uma.
