Quando ouvimos falar pela última vez de “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City”, as mulheres estavam nas Bermudas, derrubando a aparente traidora Monica Garcia e seu reinado de terror de boato — com Heather Gay cantando o instantaneamente digno de meme “Receipts! Proof! Timeline! Screenshots!”
Agora, as donas de casa estão de volta com o episódio de estreia da quinta temporada na quarta-feira à noite, o que sugere que sentimentos fortes estão fervendo sob a superfície aparentemente perfeita de suas vidas televisionadas para a sessão de fotos da Architectural Digest.
Com base neste primeiro episódio e em clipes que mostram o resto da temporada, parece que, sem Monica como inimiga em comum, eles ainda encontrarão muito o que discutir entre si — e, talvez, com os novos membros do elenco que fizeram sua estreia esta semana.
Prólogo: O que é “real”?
Em vez de uma montagem padrão de “anteriormente em…”, a nova temporada começa com uma espiada nos bastidores do reality show.
Rapidamente, somos mostrados ao estúdio apertado onde as cenas de “confessão” das Housewives são filmadas. As mulheres sentam-se em um banco, com um grande pôster de suas respectivas salas de estar como pano de fundo — uma surpresa para alguns que talvez pensassem que as equipes da Bravo se instalavam nas casas reais das mulheres.
Depois, fazemos fotos aéreas dessas casas enormes (principalmente no East Bench ou em Park City) antes de entrar em várias delas para capturar o elenco — primeiro Heather, seguida por Whitney Rose, Angie Katsanevas, Meredith Marks e Lisa Barlow — aparentemente vivendo suas melhores vidas.
Em uma narração, Angie observa que ser uma das donas de casa é “um vínculo e uma amizade que você não consegue explicar”.
Whitney acrescenta: “mas às vezes, esse círculo de confiança se volta contra você”.
“Então, quando nos decepcionamos”, Heather conclui, “nós voltamos para onde começamos. Nós nos lembramos do que nos conecta, e rezamos para que isso não aconteça novamente.”
As senhoras que almoçam
O evento central deste episódio de estreia é uma festa “Besos”, organizada por Lisa para jogar beijos para suas amigas no Dia dos Namorados — cerca de três meses após a série de reunião da quarta temporada ter sido filmada.
Lisa convida algumas dezenas de mulheres para sua festa no Blue Sky Ranch, um espaço para eventos em um resort de luxo em Coalville. A lista de convidados inclui todo o elenco desta temporada — Heather, Whitney, Angie, Meredith, Mary Cosby (retornando ao status de tempo integral) e a nova adição, Bronwyn Newport (mais sobre ela depois).
Lisa expressa reservas sobre convidar Whitney, porque Whitney deu uma entrevista ao podcast “The Viall Files” do ex-astro de “The Bachelor” Nick Viall duas semanas antes, onde ela disse que Lisa “sempre foi a vilã”. Lisa confidencia a Heather e Angie que não está nada feliz com Whitney por isso.
Apresentando Bronwyn
A Bravo deve ter grandes esperanças em Bronwyn, porque eles permitem que ela faça não uma, mas duas entradas chamativas.
A primeira é na festa de Lisa, onde ela chega com uma jaqueta de pele em formato de coração — um item da Saint Laurent que Bronwyn diz ter custado US$ 15.000 (um valor verificado em um artigo da Vogue de 2022) e é apenas um dos três desse tipo existentes. (Bronwyn diz que os outros dois estão em um museu e em posse de Rihanna — e a Vogue também verifica a parte de Rihanna.) A jaqueta de Bronwyn também configura um dos momentos mais cômicos do episódio, quando a nova “amiga” Britani Bateman insulta Bronwyn e Mary chamando-a de “fantasia”.
A outra entrada é um flashback que mostra Bronwyn encontrando Lisa para almoçar cinco dias antes no Edison House, o clube social de três andares, exclusivo para membros, no centro de Salt Lake City. Bronwyn está usando calças quentes, um top sutiã, uma jaqueta bomber bufante e botas de cowboy — tudo em uma estampa de leopardo amarelo brilhante combinando. E, como o gráfico na tela nos diz, ela está andando do lado de fora com essa roupa em fevereiro, quando está 37 graus lá fora.
A moda é muito importante para Bronwyn, e estava claro que o inverno não iria atrapalhar.
“O caos engraçado é meio que minha marca, minha estética”, diz Bronwyn em seu primeiro confessionário. Vestindo um número vermelho envolvente que parece um saco de dormir meio aberto e provavelmente custa mais do que um Ikon Pass, ela acrescenta: “Estou completamente vestida agora como um personagem de Tim Burton e me sinto incrível — obrigada por perguntar.”
Bronwyn revela que foi criada em A Igreja de Jesus Cristo dos Santos dos Últimos Dias e, assim como seus irmãos, frequentou a Universidade Brigham Young — embora ela diga que foi expulsa.
Ela não diz o porquê neste episódio, mas o material publicitário da Bravo disse que é porque ela engravidou. (O Código de Honra da universidade de propriedade da Igreja SUD, um conjunto de diretrizes que funcionários e alunos devem seguir, inclui abster-se de sexo fora do casamento.) Bronwyn criou sua filha, Gwen, como uma mãe solteira, até que ela se casou com um cara das finanças, Todd Bradley, que é 26 anos mais velho que ela. (Bronwyn não é tímida sobre esse fato.)
A primeira impressão é que Bronwyn será muito divertida — e pode desafiar Whitney como a agitadora residente das donas de casa.
O undercard: Meredith vs. Angie
No deck de coquetéis, Whitney faz sua entrada e cuidadosamente evita Lisa — o que Lisa, como anfitriã, acha de mau gosto.
Whitney não consegue evitar Meredith, que escolhe um argumento sobre suas respectivas linhas de produtos. Meredith está infeliz que Whitney esteja introduzindo uma linha de bombas de banho, depois que Meredith falou em fazer o mesmo na reunião. Whitney responde que ela tem bombas de banho como parte de sua marca há anos.
(Banheiras são um tema recorrente com Meredith. Ela se ofendeu com comentários anteriores de Whitney sobre a limpeza de seu banheiro e reclamou sobre ficar no único quarto sem banheira na viagem da quarta temporada para Bermudas.)
Angie interrompe para ter um momento com Meredith. Angie ainda está chateada com os comentários de Meredith sobre os negócios de Angie (como o Lunatic Fringe, a rede local de salões de beleza que ela e seu marido, Shawn Trujillo, fundaram em 1999). Um rápido clipe de flashback lembra aos fãs que Meredith foi bastante receptiva aos rumores que Monica espalhou na temporada passada sobre os supostos laços de Angie com a “máfia grega”.
Angie, possivelmente confundindo o Dia dos Namorados com o Festivus, produz um pergaminho com uma lista de queixas contra Meredith. O pergaminho (que Angie trouxe para uma recente festa de observação do Bravo no Flanker Kitchen + Sporting Club no centro de Salt Lake City) se desenrola até cerca de quatro pés de comprimento, e tanto Heather quanto Mary comentaram sobre o quão impressionante era esse projeto de artes e ofícios.
Algumas pontas soltas
• Na offseason, Mary — que na temporada passada evitou participar de atividades em grupo em Palm Springs, e também discutiu com Whitney e Heather — tornou-se amiga de Angie rapidamente. O catalisador, nos disseram, foi na reunião, quando Angie disse calmamente a Mary que tinha batom nos dentes.
• Heather entra na festa com um vestido vermelho de látex, gabando-se de ter perdido 25 libras. “Ozempic, baby,” Heather declara.
• Quando conhecemos Britani, uma das duas novas “amigas” desta temporada, ela está saindo de um rompimento com seu namorado, Jared Osmond — um sobrinho de Donny & Marie. “Na cultura mórmon, isso é o equivalente a namorar o príncipe Harry”, diz Heather.
• Lisa fala animadamente sobre seu filho, Jack, que está em Bogotá, Colômbia, servindo sua missão de santo dos últimos dias. Lisa comenta que Jack encontrou algumas cafeterias legais lá e alguns restaurantes “com estrelas Michelin”. Bronwyn brinca, “este não é o mormonismo em que fui criada.” (A Palavra de Sabedoria, um guia para viver revelado ao fundador da Igreja SUD Joseph Smith e considerado cânone, declara que “bebidas quentes não são para o corpo ou a barriga”, mas pesquisas mostraram que os membros mais jovens da fé dos santos dos últimos dias são menos propensos a considerar a abstinência de café ou chá como essencial para ser “um bom mórmon.”)
O (inevitável) confronto Whitney vs. Lisa
Finalmente, é hora do almoço, e Whitney está pronta para a raiva de Lisa — que, por um breve momento, é redirecionada para Angie por avisar Whitney sobre o que Lisa disse no que ela pensou ser uma conversa privada.
Whitney confronta Lisa sobre o podcast, repetindo o que ela disse na época: que Lisa é “egocêntrica”.
Whitney pergunta a Lisa, “sobre o que eu menti?” — e voltamos a dois anos atrás, quando Whitney repetiu um rumor infundado sobre Lisa trocando favores sexuais por ingressos para o Utah Jazz. Whitney reforça e diz “Eu nunca menti”, o que abre uma enxurrada de gritos de Lisa, Heather e Meredith.
Finalmente, depois que Lisa gritou com Whitney e jogou uma bebida no chão, Whitney se cansou. Whitney levanta a mão, mostra um dedo do meio bem cuidado, diz “F— você, Lisa Barlow”, e sai furiosamente.
