Estamos apenas no segundo episódio da quinta temporada de “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” e uma grande trama já está se desenvolvendo: a batalha entre Whitney Rose e Lisa Barlow, e os danos colaterais infligidos a qualquer um que fique do lado de qualquer uma delas.
Enquanto as donas de casa examinam as consequências da festa “Besos” de Lisa, que ocupou todo o primeiro episódio, o episódio 2 também nos dá fortes introduções a duas das novatas desta temporada — Bronwyn Newport e Britani Bateman.
Depois da explosão dos ‘Besos’
O episódio começa com Lisa e Bronwyn andando no SUV de Lisa, conversando sobre a festa “Besos” na noite anterior e a maneira como Whitney mostrou o dedo do meio para Lisa e saiu furiosa.
Lisa ainda está chateada com Whitney e também não está feliz com Angie Katsanevas, que quebrou a confiança de Lisa ao dizer a Whitney que ela estava brava porque Whitney deu uma entrevista para um podcast no qual ela chamou Lisa de “vilã” do programa. Então Lisa fica surpresa quando Angie liga e pede para se encontrarem para um encontro individual.
Lisa e Bronwyn pegam Heather Gay e vão para o lugar feliz de Lisa: o drive-thru do Wendy’s. Depois de encherem-se de nuggets e batatas fritas, Lisa pergunta se elas — Lisa, Heather e Meredith Marks — se uniram contra Whitney na festa. (Clipes da semana passada fornecem a resposta: Sim, elas se uniram.)
Heather não tem certeza do que fazer com os comentários sarcásticos de Bronwyn. Memórias do novo rosto da 4ª temporada, Monica Garcia — que foi revelada como operando uma fábrica de boatos online visando as Housewives — pairam sobre nós.
“Tenho cuidado com pessoas”, diz Heather em um confessionário, “que têm opiniões fortes e duras sobre pessoas que estão conhecendo pela primeira vez”.
Conhecendo Bronwyn
Bronwyn e seu marido financista, Todd Bradley, são vistos em sua casa, onde moram há um ano e meio, embora muitos de seus pertences ainda estejam em caixas. Uma caixa, aberta após a chegada do decorador de Bronwyn, contém uma escultura do artista britânico Carl Hapgood — quatro cadeiras de madeira empilhadas, com letreiros de neon com as palavras “você mudou minha vida” penduradas entre as pernas da cadeira.
Bronwyn nos conta sobre Todd, que ela conheceu 10 anos antes, quando trabalhava em finanças. Todd, disse Bronwyn, já foi CEO da Palm — fabricantes do PalmPilot e subsequentes (e agora obsoletos) dispositivos PDA — e agora trabalha em private equity, o que exige que ele viaje para Nova York dois ou três dias por semana.
Também morando na casa está a filha de 17 anos de Bronwyn, Gwen. Bronwyn tinha 19 anos, quase 20, quando engravidou de Gwen — e os publicitários da Bravo dizem que ela foi expulsa da Brigham Young University por causa disso. (Sexo antes do casamento é uma violação do Código de Honra da BYU, que todos os alunos concordam em manter para permanecer na escola.)
Meredith quer um bat mitzvah
Meredith Marks e seu marido, Seth, aproveitam um encontro durante o dia, uma aula de culinária na Salt Lake Culinary Education (SLICE), onde picam pimentões e alho para fazer shakshuka — ovos pochê com molho.
O prato é frequentemente associado a Israel, o que está muito presente na mente de Meredith ultimamente. Ela conta a Seth que tem pensado sobre sua herança judaica e a onda de antissemitismo que está crescendo no país. (O episódio foi filmado em fevereiro, alguns meses após o ataque do Hamas em 7 de outubro a Israel.)
Meredith, aos 52 anos, decidiu fazer algo que não fez quando tinha 13 — estudar para seu bat mitzvah, o ritual de amadurecimento para meninas judias. Seth fica em choque no começo, mas claramente comovido.
Meredith depois conta aos filhos, Brooks (que tinha 24 anos quando o episódio foi filmado) e Chloe, 22. Eles dão apoio, embora deem uma leve bronca na mãe. “Eu não achava que as pessoas faziam isso na sua idade”, diz Brooks, enquanto Chloe pergunta, “Você não está fazendo isso pela festa e pelas moedas?”
Lisa e Whitney se reagrupam
Lisa encontra Angie para beber no Franklin Ave. Cocktails & Kitchen, um bar chique com painéis de madeira no centro de Salt Lake City. Angie diz a Lisa que não dormiu muito depois da festa dos “Besos”, porque acha que Lisa e os outros se uniram contra Whitney.
Lisa ainda está brava porque Angie contou a Whitney sobre a conversa particular que Lisa e Angie tiveram sobre Whitney. O motivo de Angie para fazer isso, ela diz em um confessionário, foi para que Whitney pudesse preparar um pedido de desculpas para Lisa — o que não foi como as coisas aconteceram. Angie diz isso no confessionário porque Lisa não está ouvindo, atrapalhando a conversa e depois indo embora.
“Eu já vi esse filme antes, estrelado por Lisa Barlow. Espera-se que você apenas concorde. Não vou fazer isso dessa vez”, Angie diz no confessionário, insinuando que mais argumentos virão.
Enquanto isso, Heather encontra Whitney para fazer compras na Crystal Journey, uma boutique em uma casa reformada na 309 E. 900 South, perto do Maven District de Salt Lake City. Elas também estão preocupadas com o fim da festa dos “Besos”, e Heather está preocupada que a atual “jornada de cura” de Whitney esteja a tornando descuidada com os sentimentos das amigas.
Whitney leva os comentários de Heather a sério. “Se três dos meus amigos estão me dizendo algo, isso significa que há algo que preciso analisar”, ela diz a Heather.
Britani se recupera
Heather e sua amiga, Britani, vão ao Grandview Park, em Provo, para jogar pickleball — um jogo que Britani não conhece bem e que exige que um produtor fora das câmeras diga a ela onde ficar para sacar.
Britani ainda está indo e voltando com seu namorado ocasional, Jared Osmond, sobrinho de Donny & Marie. A situação de Britani — duas vezes casada, duas vezes divorciada e frequentemente casada — lembra Heather de sua própria criação em A Igreja de Jesus Cristo dos Santos dos Últimos Dias.
“O mormonismo cria mulheres que prezam o relacionamento romântico acima de tudo”, diz Heather em um confessionário. Heather, há muito afastada da igreja, diz a Britani durante o jogo que sua vida está indo bem, então “por que eu estragaria isso por um homem?”
Britani é o assunto de comentários desagradáveis de Bronwyn e Mary Cosby, ainda incomodadas pelo comentário de Britani na festa “Besos” de que seus casacos de alta costura — das casas de moda, respectivamente, Yves Saint Laurent e Dolce & Gabbana — eram “fantasias”.
Bronwyn — que brinca com Angie dizendo que Britani “não sabia soletrar YSL” — diz que Britani a lembra dos colegas da BYU que a julgaram quando ela engravidou. “Mulheres como Britani são a razão pela qual eu luto para fazer amizades femininas fortes”, diz Bronwyn no confessionário. “Estou sempre esperando que alguém me decepcione.”
Mary oferece uma resposta mais sucinta: “Ela não é a faca mais afiada da gaveta. Ela nem é a colher mais afiada.”
Relacionamentos nas cordas
O clímax do episódio é uma experiência de união que Heather organiza, uma pista de obstáculos de corda na ZipLine Utah, perto de Heber City. Usando arreios e capacetes, e presos por ganchos-guia e uma equipe de instrutores, o elenco anda em cabos muitos metros no ar.
Meredith fica de fora desta, alegando um caso de cotovelo de tenista por bater manteiga na temporada passada. Mary — que se recusou a participar da maioria dos eventos de grupo na temporada 4 — vai para as cordas com entusiasmo.
Após a escalada, as donas de casa pegam comida mexicana em um food truck que Heather (ou os produtores) reservou e sentam-se para mais uma conversa.
Primeiro, Britani declara que ela e Jared são “oficiais do Instagram” — fazendo com que os outros, particularmente uma Mary irritada, opinem que Britani está dando muito crédito a Jared. Bronwyn chama Britani de “desequilibrada” e “caótica”. Heather repreende Bronwyn por esses comentários, e Bronwyn se pergunta no confessionário por que sua amiga Lisa não a está defendendo.
Logo, Lisa e Whitney voltam a trocar insultos, até que Whitney cede e pede desculpas pelo que disse sobre Lisa naquele podcast.
Whitney tem um motivo para fazer as pazes. Ela está convidando todo mundo para uma viagem de garotas “para continuar a união”. É uma excursão de dois dias em jato particular para Milwaukee, onde a amiga de Whitney, a superestrela drag Trixie Mattel — proprietária do motel de Palm Springs que foi o local da primeira viagem de garotas da 4ª temporada — é coproprietária de um bar gay.
Restos e sobras
• O terceiro rosto novo desta temporada, a “amiga” Meili Workman, novamente teve pouco tempo na tela. A única coisa digna de nota sobre a aparição de Meili foi o número de vezes que ela chamou as outras de “irmã” para encorajamento durante o percurso de corda.
• Angie — que, com seu marido Shawn, é dona de 10 salões de cabeleireiro Lunatic Fringe em Utah, Idaho e Ohio — revelou o segredo do sucesso deles: “Graças a Deus, as pessoas em Salt Lake City são muito vaidosas e gostam de arrumar o cabelo, porque os negócios estão crescendo.”
O episódio da próxima semana está programado para ir ao ar na Bravo na quarta-feira, 2 de outubro, às 21h, horário do leste — e vai ao ar às 19h, horário das Montanhas, na DirecTV e Dish, bem como às 22h, horário das Montanhas, na Xfinity. (O programa é transmitido no dia seguinte no Peacock.)
