SEATTLE — Geno Smith lançou para 289 jardas e um touchdown de 71 jardas para DK Metcalf, Zach Charbonnet correu para dois TDs, e o Seattle Seahawks derrotou Miami por 24 a 3 no domingo, onde a atenção se voltou para outra lesão sofrida por um quarterback dos Dolphins.
Uma semana depois de perder Tua Tagovailoa para a terceira concussão nos últimos dois anos, os Dolphins viram Skylar Thompson sofrer uma lesão no peito no segundo tempo, deixando Tim Boyle para tentar liderar o ataque após uma desvantagem de 17-3.
Boyle não conseguiu reagir e os Dolphins (1-2) ficaram presos em uma situação de incerteza sobre a situação do seu QB.
Thompson se machucou no terceiro quarto, ficando caído após ser empurrado por Dre’Mont Jones após um passe para De’Von Achane. Mas a lesão provavelmente foi sofrida no drive anterior, quando Thompson foi derrubado por Tyrel Dodson e estava curvado no meio do corpo enquanto corria para fora do campo.
Thompson acertou 13 de 19 para 107 jardas. Ele também foi sackado cinco vezes.
Tagovailoa viajou para Seattle pouco mais de uma semana após sofrer a concussão contra Buffalo em 12 de setembro. Os Dolphins expressaram confiança de que Thompson seria capaz de intervir e manter seu potente ataque em movimento.
Mas tudo o que Miami conseguiu foi o field goal de 23 jardas de Jason Sanders no primeiro quarto. Miami teve apenas 205 jardas no total.
Miami teve a chance de chegar a uma pontuação no começo do quarto período após a segunda interceptação de Smith no jogo — um passe que foi desviado por Calais Campbell e agarrado no ar por Zach Sieler. Miami chegou ao Seattle 3, mas falhou em quatro tentativas e perdeu a bola em downs.
Smith acertou 26 de 34 passes, incluindo o longo passe para TD para Metcalf. Charbonnet terminou com 91 jardas em 18 corridas e sua corrida de TD de 10 jardas com 4:55 restantes finalmente colocou os Dolphins para longe. Seattle melhorou para 3-0 pela primeira vez desde 2020.
O ataque de Seattle estava zumbindo no início com Smith lançando para 133 jardas no primeiro quarto. O grande lance veio na jogada final do primeiro quarto quando Metcalf usou um movimento duplo para abrir e Smith o encontrou para sua sétima recepção de touchdown na carreira de 50 jardas ou mais.
Mas depois daquele primeiro quarto, foi uma tarde bastante miserável para os Seahawks naquele lado da bola, com drives frequentemente frustrados por penalidades. Os dois times foram marcados por 11 penalidades aceitas, com várias outras recusadas ou compensadas.
Lesões
Junto com Thompson, os Dolphins perderam o left tackle titular Terron Armstead (olho) e o cornerback Kendall Fuller (concussão) devido a lesões no primeiro tempo.
Seattle perdeu profundidade significativa na linha defensiva, já que o novato da primeira rodada, Byron Murphy II (posterior da coxa) e Leonard Williams (costelas), foram ambos perdidos por lesões no primeiro tempo. Ambos foram descartados no intervalo.
