Um homem de 32 anos foi preso e acusado de disparar pelo menos seis tiros contra um rival do Bronx, matando a vítima no rosto, informou a polícia no sábado.
Kelvin Mata enfrenta acusações de homicídio e homicídio culposo decorrentes do assassinato de Rafael “Quiro” Vasquez na noite de quarta-feira em Fordham Heights, disseram os policiais.
Vasquez, também de 32 anos, foi baleado no rosto e nas costas na E. 180th St. e Creston Ave. às 7h30, enquanto se dirigia para a casa de um parente com utensílios domésticos em mãos.
“Ele estava vindo para me trazer um grande saco de lenços Scott, um grande saco”, disse a tia de Vasquez, Glory Colon, 60, ao Daily News na quarta-feira. “Ele estava vindo para cá, e quando eu vou para lá, vejo um saco jogado no chão e todo mundo está gritando. Eu fico tipo, ‘Meu Deus, Quiro, o que aconteceu?’ Eles ficam tipo, ‘Eles mataram Q.’ Os olhos dele estavam abertos.”
Pelo menos seis tiros foram disparados contra Vasquez, disseram vizinhos atordoados.
“Olhei pela janela e vi o cara no chão”, disse um vizinho de 37 anos que se identificou como Jonathan. “Ele estava com um capuz branco, de bruços.”
O serviço de emergência médica levou Vasquez às pressas para o Hospital St. Barnabas, mas ele não pôde ser salvo.
Os policiais pegaram Mata um dia após o assassinato, disse a polícia. Quando ele foi levado sob custódia, ele tinha uma arma de fogo e uma variedade de narcóticos com ele. A polícia também o acusou de porte de armas e drogas.
O motivo do tiroteio não foi imediatamente divulgado. Detetives do NYPD estavam investigando a possibilidade de que o tiroteio estivesse relacionado a drogas, disseram fontes policiais.
Um amigo de Vasquez disse que ele havia sido libertado recentemente após uma prisão, mas não disse o motivo ou onde ele estava preso.
“Ele acabou de chegar em casa”, disse o amigo. “Ele estava… cuidando da mãe, todas essas coisas. Ele estava bem, essa é a coisa mais louca.”
Mata foi mantida sob fiança de US$ 250.000.
A morte de Vasquez foi o segundo assassinato brutal na área em um intervalo de nove horas, disseram os policiais. Os tiroteios consecutivos aconteceram a cerca de quatro quarteirões um do outro.
No caso anterior, às 23h de terça-feira, Juan Lluverez foi atingido por um atirador mascarado que pilotava uma Citi Bike na esquina das avenidas E. Burnside e Jerome.
Os médicos também levaram Lluverez, 35, para o Hospital St. Barnabas, onde ele foi declarado morto. De acordo com os policiais, Lluverez estava a menos de meia milha de casa quando foi emboscado.
O pai da vítima disse que Lluverez tinha uma filha adolescente, era irmão mais velho de quatro irmãos e trabalhava como atendente de loja de conveniência na área onde foi morto a tiros.
“Não consigo entender nada disso”, disse o pai perturbado. “Não sei se ele era um alvo ou se foi aleatório. Ele era um garoto generoso, tinha um bom coração.”
O assassinato de Lluverez permanecia sem solução no sábado.
