O único navio de combustível da Marinha que atende ao grupo de ataque do porta-aviões USS Abraham Lincoln, sediado em San Diego, no Oriente Médio, sofreu danos enquanto operava na costa de Omã na segunda-feira, de acordo com o Military.com, CNN e outros meios de comunicação.
A Marinha confirmou que o USNS Big Horn de 677 pés foi danificado, mas não forneceu detalhes, nem disse o quão rápido pode enviar um petroleiro substituto para a região. As autoridades também se recusaram a discutir relatos da mídia dizendo que o leme do petroleiro foi danificado e que o navio será rebocado para Dubai.
O Abraham Lincoln é o carro-chefe de um grupo de embarcações que inclui os contratorpedeiros USS Spruance, USS O’Kane e USS Stockdale, baseados em San Diego. A ala aérea do porta-aviões inclui dois esquadrões de helicópteros de San Diego.
O grupo de ataque USS Theodore Roosevelt, também baseado em San Diego, estava servindo recentemente na mesma área. Agora está a caminho de volta para a Califórnia, disse a Marinha.
