Aaron Judge foi a ausência mais notável. No entanto, Aaron Boone disse que o rebatedor jogará os dois últimos jogos da temporada regular dos Yankees no sábado e domingo, antes que o time se afaste no primeiro turno antes da Série da Divisão da Liga Americana.

Judge está a dois passos de sua segunda temporada de 60 home run – apenas Mark McGwire e Sammy Sosa conquistaram o feito duas vezes – e se aprofundou em cinco jogos consecutivos. No entanto, Boone disse que isso não influenciou sua decisão de dar descanso a Judge, que disputou 157 partidas nesta temporada. Isso amarra um ponto alto na carreira.
“Ele não está jogando por nada disso”, disse Boone.
Boone disse que também era uma prioridade descansar um pouco Austin Wells. O receptor provavelmente também ficará de fora em um dos últimos dois jogos.

LeMahieu espera ser uma opção
DJ LeMahieu (quadril) está se sentindo melhor após uma injeção de cortisona. Ele planeja iniciar as atividades de beisebol nos próximos dias. Com os Yankees se despedindo no primeiro turno, ele trabalhará para se tornar uma opção para o elenco do ALDS.
“Não sei se eles vão me usar ou não”, disse ele, “mas com certeza vou tentar estar disponível”.
LeMahieu está saindo da pior temporada de sua carreira, ao cortar 0,204/0,269/0,259 com 52 wRC+. Parece improvável que os Yankees o convocassem se estivessem prontos, embora Boone tenha dito: “Veremos”.
“O que é encorajador é como ele está se sentindo, como está se saindo e sua disposição de trabalhar e fazer tudo o que puder para ser uma opção”, continuou o capitão. “Então, estou muito animado com isso e com o fato de que sinto que ele virou a esquina um pouco.”
LeMahieu disse que não conversou com os Yankees sobre a possibilidade de ser uma opção. E se não estiver, ele entende.
“Nossa equipe está jogando muito bem agora, então quero fazer tudo o que puder para ter certeza de que sou uma opção”, disse ele. “Tem sido bom estar perto dos caras, com certeza. É definitivamente o que me faz ir ao parque todos os dias, e temos um ótimo grupo.”
Cronograma de dispensa
O ALDS só começa no sábado, 5 de outubro, então os Yankees terão uma longa folga após o final da temporada regular de domingo.
Boone disse que segunda-feira será um dia ruim, embora alguns arremessadores possam precisar jogar bola. Os Yankees começarão a crescer na terça, quarta e quinta-feira. Esses dias podem incluir treinos de rebatidas ao vivo e jogos simulados, embora terça-feira seja um dia mais leve. Sexta-feira será um treino tradicional antes do Yankees começar a pós-temporada.
Rodón e a rotação
Com Gerrit Cole definido para iniciar o jogo 1 do ALDS, os Yankees ainda não decidiram se Carlos Rodón iniciará o jogo 2 ou 3. Isso dependerá de quem os Bombers jogarão e de quem será seu terceiro titular; isso é tudo que eles precisam no ALDS melhor de cinco.
Isso também continua sendo uma conversa, embora as escolhas caibam a Luis Gil e Clarke Schmidt.
“Sentimos que tomamos uma decisão difícil”, disse Boone, “mas uma boa decisão porque temos muita confiança em quem lança”.
Berti e o banco
Por causa de sua velocidade, o nome de Jon Berti surgiu durante a coletiva de imprensa de Boone antes do jogo. O dirigente disse que o utilitário provavelmente jogará duas vezes no fim de semana.

Um jogador em posição “extra” significaria um banco de cinco homens e uma equipe de arremessadores de 12 homens.

Jake Cousins (pec) arremessou pela primeira vez desde que entrou na lista de lesionados na sexta-feira. Ele fez isso em terreno plano, com uma captura leve. O apaziguador ainda espera estar pronto para o início do ALDS.
